23 year old male here, as hetero as the day is long, and i LOVED mean girls. i’ve never given twilight a chance though, and i don’t plan on it.

i’m pretty open about giving films a chance. even if i personally don’t like it, i’m empathic enough to know why someone else would like it i.e. the Notebook. However, knowing what i know about twilight, i’m sensing that it’s basically a softcore romance novel put up on the big screen only without the sex ~ geared exclusively at 14 year old girls.

jokes aside, seriously, is there anyone NOT a 14 year old girl who cares to defend twilight?

Slightly off topic, I read one review for the sequel that was hilarious, the reviewer is going on and on ranting about this movie, something to the effect of: “I don’t even know what the werewolf and the vampire see in this mopey, angst-ridden chick anyway”.
I wish I could remember where I read it.

Another vote for a type of guy hoping to get in his date’s pants later.

even if a guy was watching a movie to get in a girl’s pants, deep down inside he doesn’t LIKE the movie itself. i mean, i took a girl to see “fool’s gold” but that doesn’t mean i LIKED the movie.

i did take a girl to see “the devil wears prada” in hopes of getting into even more panties and ended up liking the movie. that in turn made me start watching Ugly Betty. the latest incarnation of my unhealthy obsession with fashion is me reading:

Oh my gosh, YES. As I mentioned, I read the first book. This was in a single sit down at the library. When I went to put it back on the shelf, the fourth book was sitting right there. Well, I was slightly interested in what happened next, but not enough to read all of the books, so I figured I’d pick it up the fourth book and skim it.

This book has some SERIOUSLY crazy shit in it! I intended to spend ten minutes glancing at it, but I spent at least half an hour, my eyes wide as saucers that this thing got published. There’s no way I would have let this thing be published if I were Stephenie Meyers’s beta (which is what fan fiction writers call their friends who proofread and edit their stories). It makes the first book look like a literary masterpiece.

I’m gay and I loved Twilight and New Moon. (I’ve seen the movies, I haven’t read the books.)

I’m in love with _Jacob_, not Edward. Jacob is a real man, and he doesn’t sparkle!

Speaking as a 28 year old male librarian who had to read the book for a class, allow me to say that it’s actually much better written than a lot of teen literature.

It’s a lot worse written than a lot of teen literature too, but if you think Twilight is bad, reading the stuff at the BOTTOM of the barrel might give you a stroke.

Don’t link to that. The last time you did, I ended up wasting like fifteen hours reading all of her Twilight reviews.

Sounds like a real blockbuster. Although you could turn it into a compelling comedy if you really played up her expectations before the big reveal and her soul-crushing disappointment at the moment of discovery. You’d have to change the ending to something funnier, though.

Yeah, as I noted in my first post, there is the sparkling. But apart from that? I see a super strong guy who obsessively stalks a high school girl.

My 15 year old daughter said it best when she said “Vampires aren’t supposed to fucking sparkle. They are badass and manly, not sad and sparkly.” My 13 year old son just called Twilight “lame and gay”

Still waiting for a single characteristic that makes him lame/gay, other than the sparkling.

Ike turner was also sparkly, and also had a desire for violence against women. Is he gay? Was Elvis gay? Superman is also sort of shiny, and is also super strong. Is he gay?

I’ve got a friend - 36 year old male - who read and enjoyed all the books. In his defense he and his wife became foster parents a few years ago and they almost immediately ended up with a house full of teenage girls. The poor man found himself adrift in a sea of overwrought estrogen, desperate for anything that might give him a clue as to what was going on in these alien female brains.

They finally got a boy placed with them. My friend was so happy.

as a gay man in his mid-30’s can I chime in.

I loved the Twilight" books…but I loved them as fluff. They were a quick read, and highly entertaining (especially when you figure out the Mormon undercurrent in the plot). They movies…well I am gay…does that need any more explanation? Why do str8 men still keep Pamela Anderson working??? She is a hot tragic mess who liked to wear as little as possible. So is Robert Pattison.

I also have to say I have a crush on someone my own age. Peter Facinelli with the bad blonde dye-job…Friggin YUMMY!!! Back off Jennie Garth…

Has anyone ever read the parody books? I read “Nighlight” by the Harvard Lampoon. It was a fun read, though, like the real novel, it got old after a while. I think part of it was the material they were parodying - the novels in the Twilight series were so repetitive that it was hard not to be repetitive in the book.

But, the funniest part of the parody for me was when Bella was talking about her clumsiness. She said that she had problems walking because her step-father kept pushing her down when she was learning to walk. (I think it’s funny when people fall down.)

Have you read the actual book? It’s chapter after chapter of “I’m so sad because it’s cloudy. Oh no, I fell down. I wonder if Edward likes me. I’m making chicken enchiladas for dinner. I’m so much better than everyone else at my school. That woman is wearing a purple shirt. Whoops, I fell again. I wish it would stop raining. I wonder if Edward likes me…” A story about the new girl in school and how she befriends her handsome but lonely gay classmate could hardly be _more_ boring than the version of _Twilight_ that exists in our dimension.
