This is Just IMHO, IANACar Dealer, but the Ford Focus is rolling proof that American car companies don’t know how to build an “economy” car that isn’t a piece of shit.

To find relative trade-in or resale values, usually people look it up in the “Kelley Blue Book.” I looked up an 01 Focus, (I pretended it was the SE 4 Door Sedan, automatic, with 50,000 miles on it and in Good condition) and it gave me a “private party” price of $6,500 or a dealer trade-in of $5,100. The comparable Honda Accord (01 DX 4 Door, auto, 50K, good condition) has “private party” price of $9,125 or Dealer trade-in of $7,650. Check it out for yourself at:

IME, the Blue Book value is usually rather optimistic.

A new ford focus is also about 15-17k while a new Accord is around 20-26k. But yeah the focus is a POS. I looked up the reviews on carsurvey.org, very very bad. However I hear the Chevorlet prizm is a good economy car. Thats about the only low cost US made car I can think of that is ok though.

The main reason i’m asking is because I want to find a good deal on a car then be able to resell it easy should I need to get rid of it.

Yeah thats the conclusion i’ve come to. I think the Camry and Corolla would be good bets too, but I bet the Civic, Camry and Accord are the best bets.

Based on 3 years of experience selling classified advertising, Honda Accord, with Toyota Camry a close second. And guess what I drive now, yep, Honda Accord.

My observations showed that American cars dropped to essentially junker value with 100,000 miles. People were still willing to pay good money for Hondas & Toyotas at that mileage.
