How about Kevin Spacey AKA KEIZER SOLZE!!! in ‘Usual Suspects’.

Um yeaaaah…I’m gonna have to go ahead and suggest Bill Lumberg from Office Space.

Hanabal Lechter in Silence of the Lambs.

Mimi from The Drew Carey Show. Oh, I see now it was said already.

King Edward the Longshanks from Braveheart coughing and wheezing and gay-bashing through Scotland.

Whining sisterphile Emporer Commodus from Gladiator. “Boo hoo everyone loves Maximus…Shut it!”

David Lo Pan - Either the 10 foot roadblock or the crazy basket case.

Agent Smith from the Matrix

Pretty much ANY villain played by Christopher Walkin, Tim Currey or Michael Ironsides

No offense Bearflag70, but did you stop watching TV in 1985? :)Good call on Kahn though

bsolute ruler of planet Apokalyps
Tough enough to go toe to toe with Superman.

Like to see him matched up against Emperor Palpatine.

I gotta agree with Judge Holden – he creeped me right the hell out.

Wolfram & Hart, from Angel, constitutes a single villain, and is my favorite Joss Whedon bad guy.

The protagonist of Joyce Carol Oates’ novel Zombie isn’t such a sweetie.

But for sheer mwahahaness, I have to go with Judge Holden.

Frankenstein’s monster… Cruel, evil, but doesn’t want to be either, and in the end he teaches a very valuable lesson about vivisection

For the most part, I stopped watching TV in about 1989. Is it THAT obvious?

I did manage to catch the ending of the reunion show “CHiPS '99”, though. 🙂

Now… I’m off to the Regal Beagle!

::singing::
Come and knock on our dooooooorrr…
We’ve been waiting for yoooooouuuu…

Dalton Campbell from _Soul of the Fire_ was quite Machiavellian, yet almost likeable. He had a strong, if twisted, sense of honor, and accepted defeat gracefully. For raving psychopath, I’d go with Gary Oldman’s Russian terrorist from “Air Force One”, and for good old-fashioned evil, Thulsa Doom. Vader would probably kick his ass though.

- Keyser Soze from \* The Usual Suspects \*. Coldly murdered his entire family for no apparant reason.

- Gollum from LOTR. IMHO, Tolkien’s “best” character, in so far as most striking and creepy, hands down.

- Jerry Lundegaard from \* Fargo \*. Icy, emotionless, narcissistic, \* evil \*.

The Green Goblin. Chucked Spider-Man’s girlfriend off a bridge; made his own son into a drug addict, and later the second Goblin, leading to his death; faked his own death; came back, was responsible for the Clone Saga (argh!); and he’s just an all-round jerk, really.

For sheer cartoonish supervillainy with no redeeming qualities whatsoever in a live-action movie, I’d have to go with Pat Ast in REFORM SCHOOL GIRLS for the ladies, and Wings Hauser in VICE SQUAD for the boys.

Wait! No it’s not. It’s needlessly complicated.

It’s unclear who infected whom. All we know for sure is that Dalton slept with his own wife Teresa and the Sovereign’s wife Hildemara, and that the Sovereign and the two women slept with a bunch of other people.

Don’t remember which Sherlock Holmes movie this was from, but in this scene, Professor Moriarity is getting a shave from his manservant. When the manservant is finished, Moriarity says to him, “Why did you not slash my throat when you had the chance?”

The manservant is horrified at this. Moriarity goes on to tell him “I mistreat and abuse you. I have no respect for you and I despise you. And yet you could have ended all that torment by simply slashing my throat. Why didn’t you?”

The manservant mumbles something and Moriarity says "You didn’t do it because you’re WEAK! You’re just a bleating sheep.

“Yes sir.”

You have as much hatred for me as I have contempt for you. Admit it."

“Yes sir.”

“Now get out of my sight. You disgust me.”

“Of course sir.”

Now THAT’S a villain!

Babylon 5 had some good villains, like Morden, Bester, and the Shadows. 60’s Marvel Comics had Dr. Doom and the Red Skull. Star Trek NG has Q, although he’s more of a godlike gadfly than a villain. From the _Flashman_ books, there’s Count Otto Von Bismark and John Charity Spring. And leave us not forget Alan Rickman, who stole the show when he played the Sheriff of Nottingham in Kevin Costner’s _Robin Hood_.
