What was Feinstein expecting before releasing Ford's letter?

So you’re saying a simple denial by one of the parties is enough to dismiss an allegation absent some corroborating evidence? That’s very interesting.

In the absence of credible evidence to the contrary and to reasonable people, yes.

…I’m saying what I said. Perhaps you should stop putting words in my mouth.

I’ve recently found that “credible” has a rather elastic definition in the eyes of some Dopers.

Of course you have.

I’ve found that some Dopers use the word “some” in order to make a blanket accusation without actually making any specific assertion to be challenged.

Do you actually have any reason to think that the Intercept is lying here, other than what they are saying does not fit in with your preferred narrative?

My understanding of the Ford letter timeline was that Ford contacted Eschoo in July, and that her statement was forwarded to Feinstein at about this same time.

The Intercept reported on Wednesday, September 12th that Feinsten had a letter regarding a complaint about Kavanaugh, but no details of the letter were available then. The Intercept said Feinstein was witholding this letter form other SJC members Sen. Dianne Feinstein Withholding Brett Kavanaugh Letter .

The next day, Thursday, September 13th, CNN Reported that Feinstein had referred the letter on to the FBI. Democrats send 'information' concerning Kavanaugh nomination to FBI | CNN Politics

The next day, Friday, September 14th, New Yorker A Sexual-Misconduct Allegation Against the Supreme Court Nominee Brett Kavanaugh Stirs Tension Among Democrats in Congress | The New Yorker and CNN Woman accuses Brett Kavanaugh of assault in letter to senator | CNN Politics both followed up with information about the contents of the letter but not the identity of the letter writer.

This same day, Friday, September 14th, The Weekly Standard published and interview with Mark Judge where Judge denies the event could have occurred," even though at this time “the New Yorker did not provide him the name of the woman alleging wrongdoing, a specific date of the alleged incident, or the location where the incident is alleged to have occurred. The woman alleging misconduct has requested that her identity be protected, according to media reports”. At this point, Dr Ford’s name had not been made public.

In this same interview, Judge says he first learned he was named in the letter during an interview with the New Yorker.
“[Ronan Farrow] said: As you know, you’re named in the letter. And I did not know,” he said. https://www.weeklystandard.com/john-mccormack/kavanaugh-classmate-named-in-letter-strongly-denies-allegations-of-misconduct

Ford’s interview with the Washington Post was published Sunday, September 16th. https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/california-professor-writer-of-confidential-brett-kavanaugh-letter-speaks-out-about-her-allegation-of-sexual-assault/2018/09/16/46982194-b846-11e8-94eb-3bd52dfe917b_story.html?utm_term=.57e01590d8aa

But, in this story by the Washington Post on Friday, September 21st, Ford said she noticed that Ed Whelan had checked her LinkedIn profile on Sunday, September 16th, but “about 90 minutes after The Post shared her name with a White House spokesman and hours before her identity was revealed in a story posted on its website.” She alerted someone (a lawyer?) to this information that morning. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/kavanaugh-ally-says-he-did-not-communicate-with-white-house-or-supreme-court-nominee-about-theory-of-another-attacker/2018/09/21/88335f1a-bdaa-11e8-b7d2-0773aa1e33da_story.html?utm_term=.d4075f375587

Ed Whelan, “republican operative” and “Kavanaugh’s friend”, Tweeted on Thursday, September 20th- then deleted and apologized for- his theory that Dr Ford may have been assualted back then, but the assault was likely committed by someone who looked like Kavanaugh and who also ran in their social circles. He Tweeted a bunch of other stuff- maps, floorplans, etc., that took him about 4 days to pull together to support his theory. https://twitchy.com/samj-3930/2018/09/20/and-there-it-is-ed-whelans-bombshell-thread-takes-fords-accusations-against-kavanaugh-apart/

So, it looks like the time frame for Dr Ford’s identity to have been secretly revealed occurred on Sunday Spetmeber 16th, in the morning, between when the White House spokesman was informed of her name by the Wapo and when Ed Whelan looked at Dr Ford’s LinkedIn profile, all of which happened at least 90 minutes before the WaPo revealed her name publicly.

I highly doubt Feinstein would have given Dr Ford’s name to Ed Whelan.
