What was getting an IUD like for you?

I should also point out that IUDs are MUCH safer now than they were. The designs are much better, and they don’t use quite so much copper.

My own choices for contraception are limited. Hormone-based contraceptives trigger my bipolar disorder, and with a baby to take care of, that can be dangerous. I refuse to pump potent psychotropic drugs into my system just so I can take the Pill. (I’m fortunate in that my bipolar is fairly minor; minor enough that I don’t need a complete drug cocktail to keep it in check.) I also refused to consider a barrier method; sex isn’t always planned, and the notion of interrupting to put my diaphragm in is unacceptable to me.

Well, to get this back on track a little bit… (:
I had an IUD put in less than a month ago… probably about 3 weeks, actually! Let me tell you, it hurt! Not something I’m anxious to go through again! However, better than the alternative, which is childbirth. I felt faint afterwards, and had to have my mom come pick me up from the dr.'s, because I was afraid to drive home. I still get some cramping, but it is too bad, really. Btw, I’ve never had kids
Anyway, I hope it goes well for you!
