The Band-Aid was so you could identify him from behind.
In the briefcase…an orange lightbulb! I read somewhere (Snopes?) that QT didn’t intend that, but the prop dept. thought it looked too plain, and stuck the light in.

Now, don’t take this wrong, because I really enjoy watching Tarantino’s films, but I think the real truth is that he isn’t as smart as he wants everyone to think.
The reason there appears to be so much intersection and relation between the characters in his movies and screenplays is because he has trouble thinking of original names, not because he’s creating a complex universe of characters.
In addition, his original screenplay for “Natural Born Killers” contained both the stories for “NBK” and for “True Romance,” and was a sprawling, 300+ page mess. He ended up cutting it in half and selling it as two different stories.
After “Pulp Fiction,” it appears he’s blown his creative wad. “Jackie Brown” was a fun movie, but it was an adapted screenplay; his segment for “Four Rooms” stank to high heaven, and his biggest project since has been the liner notes for a Johnny Cash box set.
As for the briefcase, it’s a classic MacGuffin, something to set the plot in motion but with no inherent story value. If the Band-Aid™ has any significance, it is unrelated to the briefcase.
I’ve heard a theory that it was the Academy Award Tarantino should have won or thought he would win (I’ve heard this both from fans and non-fans of Tarantino).
Seriously though, I have heard Tarantino talk about how the art dept. messed up and put a orange light-bulb in it. I’ve also heard that it’s a birthday cake for Mrs. Wallace. I would think that maybe Tarantino kept it like that to keep the rumors flying and bring a certain mystery to the film. Just a guess on my part though. Later all.
No offence taken.
All of my evidence is circumstantial.
The briefcase combo was 666.
The contents of the case glowed.
All the bullets fired missed the targets at close range.
Then there’s the band aid.
Product placement?..maybe
Covering a scar?..doubtful
I was reading “Religions of the World” and came across the passage about some religions thinking the soul can only enter and exit through the nape of the neck.
It was several yrs after I saw the movie, that I read the “neck” thingy.
I had an epiphany of sorts and made the connection to Pulp.
I could be wrong…(I don’t think I am) but mostly, I want to believe it was a soul in there. It also makes sense to me.
I think we’ll have to agree to disagree, JimmyNipples! You like your interpretation better, and I like mine. Now, any more questions from anyone…?
Yup…nobody is going to change anybody’s mind here.
