If this were a tenure-track position the interview process would be far more rigorous. Typically, the committee will do 30-minute to 1-hour screening interviews with about twelve to fifteen candidates, either at the annual convention in their field or over the phone, then invite their top three or four candidates to campus. The campus interview is a marathon involving meetings with HR / various administrators / the search committee / other professors in the department, a teaching demo and / or research talk, and several meals (usually including lunch with students). If you can fake sane for that long, AND the committee likes your work and isn’t blown away by one of the other candidates, the job is yours
