What was the first book to keep you awake all night?

Me too! I read the entire 1000+ page book over the first 3 days of Thanksgiving break when I was in 7th grade, since I’d heard that the mini-series was coming out in a few months. Which is sort of ironic, since the suicide note written in blood at the end of part one upset me so much it took seven or eight years before I finally watched the second half.

Helter Skelter - I’d found it in the trunk of a used car I bought, and a few years later, I was bored, so I decided to read it. This is NOT a book to read when you live alone! I didn’t want to keep reading, but I had to - I needed to know it came out OK. Plus as long as I had the light on, the noises in my apartment weren’t quite so bad.

I’ve never been able to re-read it, but the memories of that noisy, late-night apartment are so vivid…

Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”

For me it was Dragonsinger by Anne McCaffrey. I just couldn’t put it down… at least this is the first book I remember staying up all night reading…
I remember Eyes of the Killer Robot by John Bellairs kept a 20 something me awake until I finished it.

Isaac Asimov’s Foundation and Earth. I just could not put it down until I finished it.

Ooh, me too. I lay awake, eyes wide open, listening for “creepy-crawlers” on the floor.
