Apparently the first time I used Amazon was to order a birthday gift for Mom. September 2002: Kindred the Embraced - The Complete series. I can’t believe that my first order was that recent, though. I was using ebay by 1999. ---

The first thing I ordered was several things… Items: ``` * 1 of: Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid (20th anniversary edition with a new preface by the author) * 1 of: Stop Thinking and Start Living * 1 of: The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat * 1 of: Introducing NLP Neuro-Linguistic Programming * 1 of: Logitech Pilot Wheel Mouse Optical ``` Number 1 on that list. I still haven’t finished reading. It’s a big and complex book. I think number 2 on that list must have been rubbish because I don’t remember it. And I still know next to nothing about NLP. ---

On my birthday in 1998 (I think I received a gift certificate): Items: ``` * 1 of: The Halloween Man Sold by: Amazon.com, LLC * 1 of: Where the Heart Is Sold by: Amazon.com, LLC * 1 of: Midwives: A Novel Sold by: Amazon.com, LLC * 1 of: The Gift of Fear : Survival Signals That Protect Us from Violence Sold by: Amazon.com, LLC ``` It was a little sad, though, looking back and seeing toys I had ordered for my girls’ Christmas gifts. Playskool and Fisher Price stuff - now they’re pretty much just into electronics. Sometimes I miss the baby/toddler years. ☹ ---

According to Amazon’s website it was a copy of the Illiad on June 10, 1999. I’m not sure that’s correct. I’m fairly certain it would have been back in 1998. I probably used a different logon that’ i’ve long forgotten. ---

It doesn’t go back far enough to show the first thing I bought. The earliest thing I bought still listed was Beginning Visual Basic 6 in 1998. Then I didn’t buy anything in 1999, bought a shitload in 2000, and have bought very little since. ---

Season 2 of Buffy, in September of 2004. I’d just gone away to school, gotten a credit card, and was free to indulge my vampiric habits without my parent’s scorn.
