I saw Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox. Very weird show. No one, besides my little group, in the audience was moving at all, no head bobbing, dancing, nothing. Why go to a show if you’re not going to enjoy it? ---

I took my 10-year-old son to see Green Day at Wrigley back in August and he loved it. He’s a huge Green Day fan and while I’m not as big on them as he is, I like their songs and I also like how they have always been appreciative of where they came from and who has influenced them. The concert was very good though also long. Billy Joe Armstrong was very good at engaging the crowd, Mike Dirnt looks good on bass, and Tre Cool just looks like he’s having goofy fun. Armstrong did a little too much call and response getting the crowd to yell “Ayyyy-Yooo!” back at him but he also had a great medley in the middle which included “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.” ---

I see a lot of nightclub acts; the last honest to God concert I went to was probably Lily Allen at the 9:30 Club in DC, 2007-ish. I remember subscribing to her MySpace page, and I didn’t join Facebook until 2008. Anyway, she puts on a wonderful show and she was touring in support of _Alright Still_. Te last BIG concert I went to was the Rolling Stones _Voodoo Lounge_ tour, RFK Stadium in DC. That had to be around 1992. Counting Crows opened for them and, at that point, their debut album was outselling _Voodoo Lounge_ at something like 9 to 1. ---

A month or so ago, we went to see Susan Werner at City Winery in Chicago. I love Susan Werner. Her current tour is supporting an EP of Cuban-inspired music she made. Before that, she had one based on “agnostic gospel” music. And one based on American Songbook standards. None are styles I’d likely go see performed just because but if you tell me Susan Werner is doing the show I know I’ll have a great time. She’s a fun and excellent performer and we’ve probably seen her shows eight or ten times now. ---

I just realized that I posted in this one previously. I also went to Riot Fest back in September and saw X, Death From Above, Ministry, New Order, and Nine Inch Nails. NiN was great but last year at Riot, Dee Snider sang “Head Like a Hole” and I really wanted to see Trent Reznor return the favor and sing “We’re Not Going to Take It.” New Order sounded decent but they didn’t seem to have much energy onstage, especially coming after Ministry. Ministry sounded like Ministry and really rocked but if I had my druthers, they would have been on just before NiN, Ministry’s energy and their visuals would have worked better in the dark. ---

Sammy Hagar / The Circle at Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas for Sammy’s 70th birthday bash. It was a fun show in an intimate venue. I realized that I have underappreciated Michael Anthony. ---

Flew to London to see pop-punk State Champs, which is sort of weird because pop-punk is the genre that I like that I least associate with London (even jazz and classical have some association in my mind, now, granted, not always _good_ classical but still…) Of course another reason was to see London again, and I think I could go a few times more to see the rest of it (only spent 5 days there so far excluding traveling.) ---

**The Damned** last April. I’m the worst sort of fanboi for them, screamed like a little girl far too many times that night because I’d been waiting for over 30 years for the opportunity to see them live (right convergence of time/money/location). Given who they are and the variety of music they’ve created over the decades, they attract a fairly diverse crowd of middle aged punks, as well as goths, metalheads, and rockers of all ages. It was a glorious bucket-list event. Venue was crap acoustically (Summit Music Hall in Denver), and would’ve preferred Red Rocks. But I get it that they prefer playing “clubs.” ---

The last ‘band’ concert I went to was the Becca Stevens Band at a small venue (BRIC) in Brooklyn last March. The last concert of any stripe was to see my daughter and her HS choir open for the National Chorale at Lincoln Center. Plus it was affordable. The main reason I don’t go to concerts these days is that they’re just too expensive.
