What was the last concert you attended?

Marianas Trench, last act at the Rock The Park festival, a four day local summer festival!

Yonder Mountain String Band
“There’s always room on yonder mountain.”

I hope they lasted longer than 20 minutes!

I saw Carbon Leaf (for the seventh time?) on Saturday.

Saw GWAR for the 23rd time two weeks ago.

You could fill a van with folks that have done that.

Dianne Reeves at her Christmas tour concert last night. A couple of weeks ago it was Paquito d’Rivera. Two great concerts, by two NEA Jazz Masters (Reeves gets her honor next year).

Puddles Pity Party! Just got back from seeing him in Cincinnati. Even got a picture with him.

Arcade Fire @XCel Center in St. Paul.
A week before that–Bob Dylan with Mavis Staples opening, same arena.
It was a busy year, though–New Pornographers at First Ave in April; Michael Franti on an outdoor plaza (best one of the year!); U2 at Croke Park in Dublin…

Styx - 2nd time within 12 months seeing them…

The one I played on Sunday.

To be followed by TubaChristmas (Porterdale GA) on Sunday, if the weather improves.

Saw this revived thread today but postponed posting till now so I could say - Paul McCartney, about an hour ago.

Staggeringly good. I had modest expectations, because I had heard his voice was buggered and figured he was just rolling the arm over to get an adulation fix.

Nup. Macca can kick ass.

Huge production values. Hugely talented band. Spectacular pyro work. And a back catalogue of songs and yarns to utterly die for.

Sang ballads beautifully. Did big spectacle songs like Live and Let Die gloriously.

I took Mrs Prosequi (whose real name is Madonna) for her birthday, which was actually today. Paul was gracious enough to sing Lady Madonna, so she was ecstatic. She pretends it was just for her.

And the show was 3 hours long - Springsteen levels of endurance from a 75 year old.

As you can tell, I am still on a post concert high.

Brilliant, brilliant show.

That was my last concert as well, and he may have loved it, but I sent a strongly worded missive to the North Carolina Symphony about them including that as part of their subscription series. While I have no problems with them performing pop music in an effort to introduce classical music to new audiences, especially younger ones, I was dismayed by them giving it a slot in my Wilmington series. I remember using the phrases “Worst kind of popular treacle” and “You know who else would put young people in the seats? Taylor Swift.”

From my point of view the worst part of it is my next concert is the dreaded Christmas Pops. There are 150 some odd years of Baroque Christmas music, another 180 or so of Classical and Romantic, and what do we get? A Frosty the fucking Snowman sing-along.

King Crimson at the Moore Theater earlier this year. Helluva show!

Our last concert was Selah, Liberal High School, a couple of months ago. Before that? I can’t remember, except for the ones we were performing in.

Some of us live out in the middle of nowhere and have no choice. We can’t go to a show that is 2 and a half hours away. If it was a so spectacular we really want to see that act, we probably can’t afford it.

Clubs? This town doesn’t even have a bowling alley.

The last one I went to was last week - Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Performers included Old Crow Medicine Show, Whisperin’ Bill Anderson, Bobby Osborne, Marty Stuart and others. Great night!

A triple show…
Keller Williams
The Infamous String Dusters
Leftover Salmon

What a fucking Hootenanny!!
I had a cute young Hippie chick come over and ask me for a hug because she loved my dancing…(no inappropriate groping was involved)

Last one was Courtney Barnett/Kurt Vile…the week before that was Daniel Johnston w/ Tweedy and friends.

The next one will be Guided by Voices…if they don’t break up between now and then.

Tuba Christmas! Tubas, Sousaphones, baritones and euphoniums. I really want to take lessons on the euphonium because then I can tell people that I play the euphonium and watch them turn green with envy. C’mon, say it with me; you know you want to: you-FONE-ee-um.

The Pixies. It was a weird concert since a) the band was to cool to acknowledge the audience, and b) in a smallish theatre with comfortable seats, everyone in the front rows stood up the whole time forcing the entire theatre to stand up if you wanted to see anything.
