# What was the last smug remark you heard?

Probably the last time I watched a Wendy’s commercial. “Red” practically personifies smug. Although I do have to somewhat envy someone who can get that level of smug self-satisfaction out of scoring a $2.00 hamburger.

I read a bit on this thread, went to the next one and made a post and realized, it would be a good example of smugness, so here it is for all to peruse my level of smugness.
Here in the Dominican Republic where I live there two different types of drivers’ licenses, One for automatic transmission cars only and one for people who really know how to drive…

Definitely not the last one I heard, but one time at work there was a conversation like this:
[talk about household expenses, electricity vs pipelined gas vs butane, gas vs diesel…]
Woman, looking like she just figured 42 is the answer: “…and of course the dryer, that one uses a lot of electricity.”
_a dozen people who don’t have dryers, which aren’t normal at all here, look at her funny and decide she’s being serious_
Man: “I don’t have one of those, you see. I think you’re the only one here that does.”
Woman: “WHAT? But how do you dry your laundry?!”
Man: “I use the fusion reactor in the sky.” [nods all around the table and a grin from the guy with the degree in Physics]
Woman: “well! Well, but _I_ do not have a TV! MY CHILDREN will never watch TV while they are in my house!”
Man: “… haven’t you mentioned that each of them has a tablet and that they also watch shows in the living room’s computer? I distinctly recall our conversation about not letting your son watch Dora because ‘that’s for girls!’”
Woman: “well, yes of course! And Dora is for girls, I’m not going to let _my son_ watch that!”
Man: “you know, I’d say something about how what’s good or bad is the programs and not what the machine you watch them on is called, but in this case the damage is elsewhere… and for the record, your children do watch TV.”
Woman: “No! MY CHILDREN will never watch any television while they live in MY house!”
We refrained from patting her, but judging by the looks she got the temptation was strong.

This can’t be the last smug remark I heard (it probably came out of my own mouth), but it’s the first one that comes to mind:
A few years ago, I was at a sub-contractor’s facility and needed a serial cable. I didn’t pack one of my own because I knew they had a lab and assumed they’d have plenty of basic equipment on-site. I asked one of their engineers where they kept their serial cables, and he replied, “we don’t have any, because it’s not 1985 anymore.” I was kind of amazed because in my experience, serial is still an incredibly common, easy, and cheap way to implement a console port. To be a hardware manufacturer and completely ignore it as outdated was bizarre to me. It felt like I was asking if I could borrow a laptop and being told “we only use tablets here, do you seriously still use a laptop, grandpa?”
It wasn’t a big deal, but what I may have interpreted as just a cute joke was amplified into smugness because of how mistaken I felt his opinion was.
