> Ahhh, you must referring to the planned Star Trek V, yes, terribly sad thing about that studio fire destroying the original print before release. Still I thought it was brave decision not to attempt to refilm, but just move on to VI.

Oh no, you’re quite mistaken. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier came out alright, I have the Special Edition DVD. You see, since it was decided that The Next Generation couldn’t really be made into more than two films, its good to have some old Trek to look back on.
In fact, reading the plot of the two planned TNG films, Insurrection and Nemesis, I’m glad they didn’t make them. Quite lame and I can only imagine what awful special effects they would have come out with as filler.

I remember al the DS9 fanboiz whining about when they finally revealed that Worf is gay. Village People Cowboy & Indian gay, at that.

Everything made more sense that way, tho.

One I forgot to bring up that always made me smile: when DC and Marvel stopped accepting story and art submissions via mail.

You would have thought that they had killed off Superman and Spiderman in a love stricken, murder suicide.

I think it was Glorfindel, but my copy’s at least ten feet away.

The point of the outrage wasn’t that it was Arwen instead of Glorfindel (or whoever it was). In the book, Frodo arrives at the river alone, and is met by the dark riders. He’s badly wounded, all alone, and has good reason to assume he’s about to be quite fatally dead, but he makes a brave stand against the riders- it’s a really good moment for the character. THEN Elf-boy arrives and rescues him.

The movie, by letting Arwen save his hobbit ass, doesn’t give us that moment of courage, and cuts a moment that works really well in the book.

Still, it’s a damned good movie, and I can still go back and read the book, so I forgive Mr. Jackson.

By the way, I think he was totally right about Tom Bombadil.

It was Glorfindel in the books, Legolas is the Ralph B…i version (wish I could remember his correct last name), and Arwen in the movie.

Bakshi. Not that that movie ever existed. Nope. It was just a wild, unsubstantiated rumour. Nothing to see here. Go back to your homes.

Yeah, I couldn’t STAND that they added random stuff like that to the movie novelizations. Who does this Tolkien guy think he is, messing with Jackson’s work like that? _ducks_

He also had two cameos: one as the voice of Sparky the computer in [Ceremonies of Light and Dark](http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/guide/055.html) and another as a Psi Cop in [The Face of the Enemy](http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/guide/083.html).

Heh, apparantly for the computer, Joe Straczynski wanted the most obnoxious, annoying, irritating person he could find. So he had Harlan play the part. 😃

> The fan outrage spanned a website, [SaveDaniel Jackson](http://www.savedanieljackson.com/history/home/home.shtml), a variety ad, and royally pissed off the SciFi network who had just purchased the series from Showtime (and they liked the show _because_ it has a relatively high female audience for a science fiction show). And the fan reaction produced results. The show brought the character (and same actor) back…

I find this rather amusing, because, honestly, I still like Jonas Quinn better than Daniel Jackson. Any guy who, as an integral part of his plan for rescuing his friends, makes out with a hot convict chick gets points in my book. He also wasn’t afraid to ask the remarkably stupid questions, such as “How did they get the Stargate into the room?”

> I thought one of the first things I’d see in this thread was the reaction to the cancellation of **Firefly**. I mean, the fans were buying full page ads in Variety, for Pete’s sake. And they resurrected the show as a theatrical movie. That’s pretty impressive.

Same thing happened for the Babylon 5 spinoff, Crusade.

Except for the part where we didn’t get a movie. Bastards.

It is indeed. The DVD also has one of the best, cleanest DVD menu interfaces I’ve ever seen, even if it is obnoxiously cheerful-colored.

Yeah, I can only imagine what kind of outrage there must have been when they made all the Looney Toons characters into high school students and one half their normal size.

What, the Tiney Toons? They were the kids of the originals with the originals still around as teachers. I can’t really be biased on that one as I liked it as a kid and don’t want to have anything to do with it as an adult since it’d just ruin the memory.

Heh, well, the last time I checked, the X-Treme version of Looney Toons was the same thing, only instead of 2nd generation toons, these are their descendents in the 25th century or something, fighting some evil dude. Don’t get me wrong, from what I’ve seen of the art style they are planning to use (or were planning, the last time I looked was several months ago), there’s all sorts of reasons to complain about it without having to just make stuff up. 🙂

Honestly though, the only way I’ll accept this show is if Duck Dodgers of the 25th and a half century makes an appearance. 😃

No, this wasn’t Tiny Toons, this was some WB idea to “poochify” the original characters {or their descendants, supposedly} into some anime X-TREME version: there were a whole bunch of CS and Pit threads I’m too lazy to link to, complete with links to the appalling artwork.

I think you’re confusing two different corporate updates; he was specifically talking about when they were back in highschool while the xtreme version was apparantly about saving the universe.
