What was the most important event in U.S. history?

Maybe it is me, but this thread seems to need an idea to bring it back from the IMO toilet it has been slipping towards. Hopefully, the idea I am about to propose, will do just that:

It seems like everyone else is fighting over which important event happened first, prior to now and post revolutionary war. Well I think the most important event in US History was the most powerful man in America, as soon as the Revolutionary War was over, taking a crap.

Yea, that is right. Without him doing that single act, he could of died somehow, throwing America into a stinkhole.

(Well I didn’t save the thread from the toilet but hey, I tried!)

The most important event in American history?

My birth, of course!

To narrow down all the Civil War/ Reconstruction suggestions, I would pick the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860.

It was a bad day for the stability of the nation when:

The electorate, or segments there of, could demand and obtain largess from the legislators,

The legislators could get (buy) votes from the electorate, or segments there of by acceeding to their demands,

The judges and courts could put a spin interpretation on the constitution (law) to suit their own agemda and/or prejudices.
