What was the point of killing this thread?

I don’t see any thread drift there. The question was whether any ex president had ever stood for vice-president. A discussion of the constitution that allow it or restrict it is directly relevant. To put it another way, the answer to the OP’s question is “no”, but a better answer to the OP’s question is “no, and here’s why the law makes it unlikely for it to happen.”

I’m not saying it’s not difficult. I’m just saying that if a thread doesn’t continue past “end this hijack,” it turns out in retrospect to have been a bad move. It’s worth paying attention to the occasions in which the last post in a thread is a moderator instruction, and figuring out why the instruction killed the thread, and whether it was really worth doing.

when you come up with a way to tell that a mod post will be ‘the last one’ at the time of the post (other than the obvious closure ones) - do let them know so they can plan in the affects and plan accordingly.

Clearly, it’s difficult, especially given the number of reports about ‘end this hijack’ (including by LHoD) we see each week.
