MD, ME; who the hell cares? Hard to tell 'em apart. Does MN or MT have moose? Probably a few. Fewer yet in MA or MO. I think. But MB and MI are lousy with the darn things. MS on the other hand? None to be found. 😉

Someone more clever than I could come up with an earworm toddler song easily as dangerous as Baby Shark with a start like this. _Where are all the Moose?_ by the SDMB Players. 😁

I was thinking about aftermarket lighting at a stoplight and remembered the scooter lights and how they’re standard equipment on even lowend models now. BUT, I’ve also heard that the lights are disabled in Europe, like mentioned here.

> If you’ve got the Max G3E version (or G3D) then no they don’t work and officially probably never will (due to the odd EU country banning this, it’s a blanket ban on these versions

From

[Reddit - The heart of the internet](https://www.reddit.com/r/NinebotMAX/comments/1kfi1h9/underglow_lights_in_austria/)

I guess it’s because the lights are multicolored and they don’t love freedom over there.

I think the “disco lights” on the scooters are often disabled b/c many scooters are (powerwise (250w/25km/h)) illegal, and people like to move stealth-y on their borderline (or not) legal scooters.

No need to yell “ **look, e-scooter here** ” to the law … 😉

FWIW, in Chicago (where I live and I have an e-scooter) lights are required by law if you ride them at night. Both a front facing headlight and at least a reflector in the back (or some kind of lighting). And these lights need to meet some minimum level of visibility.

In my case my scooter can light-up like a disco if I want to (I keep it normal but it is very well lit as these things go) so I am fine riding at night.

Of course, laws about this likely vary across the country.

Perhaps we should study the efficacy of those underglow lights on moose reducing the collision and death rate. Then with a follow up study of lighted antlers on deer and elk might give us some really cool regulations.

We all know the phrase, “A deer in headlights” as the deer freezes in place when dazzled by headlights and then the driver hits the deer which froze in place and didn’t move out of the way.

I can only assume underglow makes them even MORE mesmerized! 😉

It may be more spacious inside of a moose, but it’s still too dark to read. 😉

I just recalled the rest of the elephant bit:

Which elephant ref I posted in response to @Spiderman’s comment about not seeing elephant crossing signs in ME, MI, or MO. Eenie was left to the imagination.

The deer is standing there thinking “I need to get me an underglow kit! I wonder if Fleet Farm has them?”

Actually this works in your favor.

Normal headlights, as you note, will freeze a deer in place. But the additional underglow lights produce an even more extreme reaction and cause the deer to be displaced in time. The deer will pop out of existence at the location of the vehicle and then reappear several minutes later.

Scientists have been documenting this behavior and theorize it is a symbiotic adaptation that has evolved between deer and pickup trucks to allow them to both exist in the same environment without causing each other damage.

Ah, yes, the quantum deer effect. For a long time hunters have been noting that when missing a perfect shot.
