I got to wondering, what with hitting 3,000 posts, what my first post was. So I hit the search engine. The only post I saw on the day I registered is here: [http://boards.straightdope.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000058.html](http://boards.straightdope.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000058.html) Some interesting facts: (1) It is in “Comments On Cecil’s Columns,” a forum I hardly ever post to (only 10 topics in all my time here). (2) It was started by an administrator I don’t even remember. Dan Kaplan?!? (3) I double-posted, correcting an error in UBB code. Definitely a sign of things to come. :o (4) For some reason, the thread was revived earlier this month after being dead for ages. (5) Posters I remember but haven’t seen in ages: Squid Vicious, Narile. (6) Posters who are still regs today: AuraSeer, zyada, handy. Oh yeah mon. Like it be yesterdeh, mon. I posted _Time Travel Possible?_ and immediately found out that I put my foot in it, but was also immediately addicted. My next performance was the SDMBSRC, or Straight Dope Message Board Self Righteous Clique. That was actually pretty fun. Then I grew up, changed my name and became a valuable poster. Or some would say. Currently, I am working towards discovering if I can make more friends, and seeing if I coax Chrome Toaster into my coterie. As far as I can tell, this was my first post: as long as were talking about the price of pudding in podunk, I thought I would throw in my 2 cents about the size of glaciers in Georgia. I think I started in but my first post in MPSIMS was to the late **Flora McFlimsey** ’s thread about where would you live if you could live any time, any place. Eve was voting for New York in the Gay 90’s. My vote was for someplace where the natives were friendly. I was afraid if I turned up somewhere and couldn’t speak the language and didn’t know what was going on they would burn me at the stake. My penchant for spoiling fantasies by failing to let go of my neuroses has been a constant in the 1400 or so posts since then. * * * “I’ll tell him but I don’t think he’ll be very keen. Hmmm. Hadn’t thought to look. Maybe it was on March, 15, 1999 in “About This Message Board” on the subject “Experiment on this thread.” It was a bunch of AOL’ers getting their feet wet in UBB. You don’t want a link. It’s boring. But there’s Egads Ron and HyperSnark, CatBiker and Shane. Dex pecks out an early post and pldennison experiments. Opal makes a point about scrolling. ---

I registered before I got the nerve up to actually post anything. Ahhh, my first post. It all started with my own innocent thread entitled, “What are your beliefs on God?” It was an honest query. After my thread got booted from GQ, to GD, David B decided to start the infamous “Great God Debate,” which contained about 400+ responses, in 6 parts. (That was back when threads weren’t divided into 50 post pages) For old times’s sake, I read the entire GGD about a month ago. It’s amazing how I used to post way back then (as ARG220).
