We _were_ the Indians for over fifty years. Had approval of the local tribes and everything, they even designed the logo to be unoffensive. Then one lady went to the school board a few years ago, and we had to ditch it. We are now the Phoenix. :rolleyes: ---

Lions. Grr. Only our lion was always depicted as this cute, fuzzy, cuddly guy. The other high school in our district was the Cougars. THe middle school that typically fed into there were the Panthers. Noticing a cat trend? Yeah, we like cats. Other than the two other middle schools: the mustangs, and the raptors. Lame, anyone? ---

Arcadia High Apaches, woo. We originally had an extremely offensive caricature called Apache Joe, but that was ditched. I believe we had approval of the Apache tribe in Arizona (?) or something along those lines, but our mascot remains fairly controversial. ---

The Baron. Not quite sure what it was, something like a knight I guess. You know that mohawk thing-y on the top of their helmets? Ours had the head of a broom. For that reason, I have and will always think of it (I suppose it was male, but the person in the costume was female more often than not) as 'The Barrington Broomhead." ---

Redlands High Terriers. We used a bull terrier as our mascot, so we could use cast-off equipment from The University of Redlands, whose mascot is the Bulldogs. Now I teach at Yucaipa High, where the senior class of 1968 got to vote on the new mascot to go with the new campus. We were 20 votes away from being the Mad Dog 20-20s. Now we are the Thunderbirds. 😃 ---

My school was too small to have an official mascot, but my friends and I decided it was a girl pooping on a cake. We stand by our decision half a decade later. ---

It _was_ Johnny Reb (_Go Rebels!_), but my most recent St. John’s Update informs me Johnny’s been felled by the PC tide, so we’re now the Mavericks. I did attend another school whose team name was the Redskins - apparently they’ve weathered better than Johnny Reb and are still known as such. ---
