We were the Burnt Hills - Ballston Lake Spartans… I liked the neighboring town’s mascot much better – they were the Tartans. That’s right, their mascot was a little Scottish boy playing the bagpipes. Oooh, intimidating. 😃

The South Ripley Raiders. Not just any raider though, it was named after John Hunt Morgan of the confederate army during the civil war. He ransacked our town and we honored him by naming a school after him. No wonder why everyone made fun of us.

Ours were the Knights, and we had a cool-looking statue of a knight in armor. The girls’ teams, however, ended up being called the “Lady Knights.” Another school in town was “the Monarchs” and their mascot was a butterfly until just before I hit high school. That was when someone from my future school destroyed their wrought iron butterfly sculpture. They replaced it with a silly-looking lion instead of getting another butterfly.

By the time I got to high school, we’d mellowed to the point of merely painting the opposing school’s mascot statue with our school colors at homecoming instead of vandalizing it.

We were the Pahoa Daggers (apparently Pahoa means dagger. . .) Interesting (and beats the Spartan, Trojan, Cardinals thing the other schools on the island had going), but the mascot was this awful little leprechaun-like menehune with a shiv.

Ours was the usual Catholic school fare…the Seton Sentinels. Yup…and I think we even named our mascot Sparky (yup, we stole the name from ASU)…or was it Spanky…hrm…can’t remember. Now I’m gonna have to check my yearbook when I get home.

We were the Lakewood Lancers. Sorta cool, I guess.

Much, much better than the mascot for Junior High:
The Bancroft Beavers.

Yes. **Beavers**.

We were the Ingots, because of our proximity to the steel mills of Northwestern Indiana. I always thought it was a stupid name and our opponents could only use “Melt The Ingots” when they played us in sports.

We were the Harriton Rams. Our cheerleaders were the “Ramettes,” and we proudly wore buttons reading, “Ram It Up!” till they were confiscated.

The buttons, that is, not the cheerleaders.

Rams . . . the Randallstown Rams. Nothing exciting about it, except IIRC, the mascot head on the gym wall had red eyes . . . it looked like it was stoned.

Heeeeeeyyyy… are you originally from a small southeastern town by any chance? The mascot of the local HS here is a blue devil, and I _refuse_ to drive through the section of town that has the mascot painted on the watertower- I _swear_ that is the creepiest damn thing I’ve ever seen. It’s just waiting for the right time, then it’s gonna step off that watertower and come bargain for my soul or something. ::shudder::

Oh, and we were the Mustangs. Not bad in artwork, but the mascot suit was a little… pathetic. Can’t figure out why a town in MA would have that as its mascot, though. Never saw any mustangs running around.

Springfield Southeast High School
2350 East Ash
Springfield, IL 62703

We were the **Spartans**. There’s a giant statue of a Spartan on top of the building near the main entrance. There was sort-of a local urban legend that some seniors had snuck up there with two coconuts and a salami and super-glued them to his belt one night, but the janitor got them down before school started the next day. 😃

And by the way… **Dire Wolf** , meet **Hello Again**. Did you guys go to high school together?

[hijack]
Cobdon, IL: Appleknockers (No idea)
New Berlin, IL: Pretzels (New Berlin is the site of the Sangamon County Fair, so I’m assuming the Pretzel has something to do with county fair food).
Centralia, IL: Orphans (Got the name when the sports editor of a rival football team said they played like orphans).
Washburn University, Topeka, KS: Ichabods (How the hell did they get named after a character in the Bible?)
Saint Louis University, Saint Louis, MO: Bilikens (WTF is a Biliken?)

More Trojans, from Gaithersburg High. For about a minute the school tried to ban people who came to football games in lawn-n-leaf bags, but fortunately they realized how counterproductive that would be…

Ya gotta wonder why they don’t just change it. I mean, UCLA has a _reason_ to keep it (how many Rose Bowls? How many NCAA Championships?), but no one else does.

At least you people had animals and other concrete objects.

We were a %@!^#@ color.

The Manchester Central [Little Green](http://www.mansd.org/central/).

> [@](#):
>
> The high school has had the dubious distinction of having had two different school colors. Originally the school chose a bright red crimson. Problems began when Concord High School chose the same colors. The story goes that the two schools agreed that the school which won the championship title in the Triangular Interscholastic League would keep the crimson. This was in either 1902 or 1903 and Manchester lost. Concord to this day is the the “Crimson Tide.” Manchester High School chose forest green, the same color as Dartmouth College.

And since Dartmouth was the “Big Green”, we became the “Little Green.” Our mascot was I think a plucky little leprechaun. Could this be any lamer?

Wait, yes it could. Our most distinguished alum: Adam Sandler (class o’ 84)

Why A Duck (class o’ 83)

The Miramonte Matadors. Go Mats! The school was too cheap to spring for a suit of lights, though, so we had no mascot.

My High school’s macot is the Ram. Our dance team used to be called Ramettes, but then when they combined the dance team with the Golden Gaurd, they called them GOLDEN GIRLS. 🙂 (School colors are black and gold.) We have two macots in the outfits. One is called Rambunctious and the other is Rambina. They are boyfriend and girlfriend. 🙂 (funny huh?) Everything is related to Rams. All our girls sports are Lady Rams. The two places that we eat are the Ram Shack and Ram Rock Cafe. Then there is Ram Road (the street the school is on) Our slogans are “GO RAMS,” (real original huh? But it was something our old Principal would say after every speech, so it stuck when he left)“Don’t Dodge it, Ram It” and so forth. 🙂 Our football team is really good. Right now we are ranked 3rd in the state. We are hoping to go to our 3rd State Championship next week, AND WIN THIS TIME! It seems Rutherford goes to State every other year. 🙂 O well. We’ll see how the game goes tomorrow night! 🙂 (Can you tell i’m excited!?) I have soo much Ram Pride! Lil Bitty Panama City is finally being spotlighted. (Because of our team)

But Dartmouth didn’t become the Big Green until the late 60’s/early 70’s. Before that, we were the Indians.

I went to Acton-Boxborough Regional High School (ABRHS) and we were the AB Colonials.
