I’m not going to look up the actual thread, because the bullshit I got still leaves a bad taste in my mouth if I think about it too hard. I don’t really care to re-read it. Me: Can anyone help me find published medical studies pertaining to acupuncture? DoperDogpile: Acupuncture is quackery!! Me: Okay, but that doesn’t answer my question. I still can’t believe that no one, ever, has done research on acupuncture. ---

My first ever thread was a ‘help me find this song’ request, in Cafe Society. It never got any replies. My second thread, in IMHO, was called ‘How common is bisexuality?’ and because I worded the title badly, the responses were few and mostly didn’t answer the question I actually asked. My third thread, and my most recent one, was ‘Has anyone ever hooked up via the SDMB?’ and was quite successful indeed. Hooray, I’m improving! Now I just need to work on how to not be a thread killer. ---

I had read an article about a lesbian from the early part of the 20th century which was talking about anti-gay laws. One of the things that was said was that there used to be laws that specified how many articles of “male” clothing a woman could wear (I think it was five items) and if she wore more than that she could be arrested for being a transvestite. I had never heard of this before and it sounded like an urban legend so I posted here to ask if anyone could verify or disprove this. Unfortunately, I never got verification or disproof. As I recall, the thread somehow got sidetracked into a discussion of pizza toppings. ---

It was about how you could have a Catholic wedding officiated by a deacon that omitted the Eucharist. My then supervisor had a wedding like that, and it so puzzled me that I had to start posting. Since my question was pretty successfully answered, I stuck with posting. Probably the oddest thing about my posting history is that my most successful thread was whether women like pantyhose (and got a resounding no). ---

Officially it was [this](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=241352) one in 04. It was a rare “What SF story was this” thread that didn’t get an answer. When I look at the list I am surprised to see I have started 147 threads. I never thought it was that many. It took quite a long time to get one that made it to page two. Unofficially I know I posted a question on the old AOL board. It didn’t go well. I think that was the only time I posted there and only lurked from time to time until for some reason I had to rejoin. I know I used the same name. Its the only one I use. ---

I asked a question in GQ, got an answer and that was it. It wasn’t very noteworthy and I usually don’t start other kinds threads until I’ve been around for awhile. I’m not shy but I like to have a feel for the place first. ---

I asked about [HDL infusion therapy](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=9142963#post9142963) for combatting coronary artery disease in GQ. **KarlGauss** basically confirmed what I’d read about it, while correcting me that it was actually infusion of a component protein, not complete HDL. Alas, there was no information about any progress regarding the therapy. It still appears to have disappeared from the face of the earth after Pfizer purchase Esperion, the company that had been testing the therapy. ---

My first [thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=482098) was about 9/11! The hilarity of opening a First Thread about 9/11 was lost on me at the time, but I appreciate it now, having seen a few other people start up that way, and how that usually goes. 🙂 Anyway, mine was not your average 9/11 First Thread ("omg bush jackhammered the pylons on bldg7!!1!) and I pretty much stand by my point. I actually almost resurrected it the other day when I found out that it takes less time to build an International Space Station than to replace a city block or two of Manhattan (especially considering one of the excuses was the political complications of building in NYC). ---

I’ve started a staggering total of 11 threads since I joined back in 2000 and three of those were proxies for others. So about one a year. The first one was asking about possible Chinese sources for the [1,001 Nights](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=57338) and I did get a good answer. But I also made an egregious error in that post that makes me wince now ( if you must know, I flipped the identities of Jajal ad-Din and Ala’ ad-Din - the second was the father ). ---

The first THREAD that I started was in response to a large number of concurrent threads about the existence or nonexistence of God. (Gee, we’ve never had a batch of concurrent threads about _that_ before or since, I’m sure!..) God EXISTS! A proof! Goes does NOT Exist – Proof. Etc etc… At the time I found it both amusing and tiresome so my first thread was sort of a parody thread, titled **God is a CAT! A Proof**. Drew from a combo of Schrödinger’s cat and some silly philosophical arguments lifted wholesale from silly philosphers. Didn’t draw much attention, really. AOL era (1997) so no link.
