I was thinking about how dark it gets here, so early in the day. And how I can look out the window at six in the morning and see the rabbits chasing each other on the lawn in front of my hall of residence in the dark. And thinking about how the last time I did that was thursday into friday when I was reading Yeats and thinking about love and wondering why we’re made to fall in love at all. And the white-winged blackbirds. And why it hailed on me at the beach today. Hail the size of rice. And why the weekends never seem to end here in Aberdeen and why they keep getting longer and lonelier and who is this strange German man in my flat, does he live here now? ---

I was thinking of how resentful I am that I usually wake up to a kitchen full of my housemates’ soiled dishes and discarded food and garbage, how this morning was especially bad since I had to push through a more-than-usual volume of debris, (including a stinky sardine tin,) in order to find space for coffee-making, and how relieved I’ll be to move out in a couple weeks. ---

I usually have more than one browser window open at the same time, and on this occasion my other window was open to a Something Awful article about stupid posts on message boards. So I was thinking how amazingly idiotic people can be, and how disturbing some of the posts were. I mean, think about it: the guy next to you on the bus tomorrow morning could be the guy who posted something like “U \*\*\*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\*!!! OMG LOLZ U SUX0Rz! XBOX RULZ, NINTNEDO DRUZLS.” And the scary thing is, you’d never know. ---

As background: Annually about this time San Diego’s Miramar Marine Corps Air Station hosts an air show. As part of this show every year they do a combat simulation that includes a fairly long series of explosions. My place is about 9 miles south of the station, and for the first time that I can recall I’ve been hearing those explosions from my place, and some of them have been strong enough to rattle the frame of the window I’m sitting next to. So…what I was thinking about was wondering what they’re setting off to have such an effect so relatively far from the station. ---
