Yeah, even in places where women are legally chattel, they are far from voiceless. I took a college class on nomads, and the professor and the grad student had both spent a lot of time wandering around with pastoral nomads. And I’m that society, the men basically owned the women, and officially, the men made all the decisions. The women weren’t even in the tent when the tribe decided where to go next. But they were sitting outside, listening. And each woman had told her husband what her preference was. And if he didn’t argue for it, he’d have burnt coffee for days. Most of those decisions made by the men were in line with their wive’s preferences. ---

A small part of my bloodline is Shawnee.
