FWIW, that exchange in the coffee pod thread gave me a chuckle. I misread “Don’t use pods” as an admonishment to Czarcasm, and was a bit startled that you’d say that. But I was quite amused when you clarified. ---

I know I sometimes type like my kids and grandkids speak. Short cuts in speech run rampant around here. I believe them speaking for me and ASL makes this happen. I do think about writing like normal people speak. Just to be clear in what I’m trying to say. Not always successfully. Normal speech is so subjective nowadays. ETA .we just had lots of words typed in ATMB about what a simple phrase like “throwing a flag” means. ---

When she first appeared on the board, she made some declaration (I don’t remember the words) that basically said don’t youse be correctin’ my grammar. I told her that this being the Dope, she could expect her grammar to be corrected, and I’d be the first to do it. She took it in good grace and peace prevailed. Later on she was not only criticized but downright excoriated several times by some of our less charitable members for certain views on social and other issues that ran against the grain of much of the board. She took all that in good grace, too, and while she never compromised her values, was always willing to adapt her behaviour to the standards of the board. There is much there to commend. ---

Speech is very interesting. And really is just communication. My wife and I play a LOT of chess. We don’t always have a clock. So, when your move is over, without a clock, you knock on the table once to indicate that you are done with your move. If you put your opponent in checkmate, you knock twice on the table. ---

No, no, no. Y’all missed my point. Your roomie is already home. Or might be; you don’t know. Then you arrive home w your squeeze. Having no idea, but some fears, about what may be already going on inside your apartment. The double knock before entering is so they can retreat to their room if they’re already in _flagrante delicto_ or perhaps just naked and scratching their nether regions while eating popcorn & watching TV. The signal knock is their warning to upgrade their act to sorta G-rated … pronto. ---
