I’m not interested in that thread, but Magiver often pisses me off with his intransigence and pseudo-expertise on virtually everything, so let me at least indulge in a bit of pedantry related to that quote:

“The rapping industry”? There is indeed such a thing as “rap”, and a “rap music industry”, but the only “rapping” that should ever be spoken about is in this context:

While I nodded, nearly napping,  
suddenly there came a tapping,  
As of some one gently rapping,

**Its** ranks – **its**!! “It’s” is a contraction of “it is”.

One can, in moments of leisure, pass the time. But any purported organized activity that helps pass the time is a “pastime”.
