> What about the guy who thought you could get rid of floaters in your eyeballs by heating them by sticking your head in a running microwave?

It is almost impossible to do so, and since dead people dont have to worry about floaters, I guess he had a point.

You’re probably the only one here with sufficient intellect to understand this.

I have discovered a shocking flaw in [Newton’s first law of motion](https://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12//WindTunnel/Activities/first2nd_lawsf_motion.html), so-called inertia. You know; we’ve all had this drummed into our heads at school: “An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion, unless acted on by an outside force.”

If so, then how come you can break inertia indoors, with all the doors and windows closed, where there’s no chance of an outside force? Ah-_hah!_ Checkmate, Newtonites!

Our definitions are the only ones we’ve got to work with… unless you have a fish dictionary or an ocelot Encyclopedia laying about.

> I recall that when quarks were first hypothesized, theory accurately predicted a triple structure, which was originally thought to be the up, down and strange quarks (the only ones known at that time) - until color charge was hypothesized.

Kind of a side note here, but it’s interesting that the chart of elementary particles can be laid out somewhat like the quantum physics equivalent of the periodic table of the elements.

It starts with the basically four fundamental particles, the up quark, down quark, electron, and neutrino. But for some reason that no one really understands – but was predicted by theory – each of them has two counterparts, forming a triple column for each one. The up quark has the charm and top quark, the down quark has the strange and bottom quark, the electron has the muon and tao particles, and the neutrino has the muon and tao neutrinos. Also mysteriously, these counterpart particles tend to have radically different masses from the original particle.

Physicists like to claim that this is a much neater arrangement than the rather oddly shaped periodic table that chemists have to deal with!
