# What Will Be the Last State to Legalize Marijuana?

My vote is Florida.

As a side note, judging by the literal truck loads of wild cannabis I saw growing in Kansas this last fall, I think the farm lobby there would have a hard time not pressing to allow for cultivating it as a cash crop in the event of legalization at a federal level. In spite of their rather restrictive liquor laws.

Tennessee and Florida are home to our biggest for-profit prison companies (CCA and GEO Group, respectively). You can’t stop putting people in jail for stupid shit when shareholder profits are at stake. Since I could only pick one, I did a mental coin flip and picked Florida.

I’m seeing a lot of resistance from people in my social network who should support legalization. “Don’t put the government in charge. What’s next, GMO pot laced with strychnine?”, etc.

Careful, that is an explicit right given in the 21st Amendment, as an exception to the Commerce clause. Still, it might work. At first, I chose the most backward state: Ole Miss. Then I realized that the Mormon church is opposed to all psycho-active drugs and chose it.
