Hmmmm. [My posts](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/okay-how-will-you-react-when-repubs-end-democracy/942589/105) from that thread remain largely valid, and I still suspect they’re more or less accurate, though my discussion of going to Israel being a “frying pan/fire” situation was if anything, understating the issues.
