I thought his examples were mainly of national-scale politicians that didn’t go according to Rush’s whims. Except for the selection of Sarah Palin. Except for the progress, countenance, and actions of individual politicians. _That_ is where he notes the influence being felt. That’s where the direction is being sent. That’s a tremendous amount of influence. For example, where did the attack on ACORN start? Who beat the drums? Who is beating the teabaggers’ nutsacks? Which view is dominating? Are most congresspersons reacting to columns by Brooks or tirades by Beck? If a Republican had a choice between pissing off Rush/Beck or Brooks, which would he or she choose? I don’t doubt that _in general_, elections are not decided by the far right (I hope). But as for day-to-day agenda setting, the vocal, emotional minority holds much more sway than a reasoned thinker. ---

I can’t believe that a guy can murder and then rape a girl, and get away with it in this day and age. It’s sad that certain media elites don’t have to answer to the same rules as everyone else. “Saint Beck” shouldn’t be above the law. I guess as long as a guy says what people want to hear loud and long enough, they’ll overlook his immoral behaviour and fancy underpants. ---

I don’t like Beck. I’ve never heard him say anything with the slightest trace of insight. He stirs things up, cashes his paycheck, and leaves confusion and anger in his wake. But the whole “why hasn’t he denied raping and murdering a girl” thing bothers me. Public discourse would be more productive without him, but it’s wrong to tar someone with suggestions like that; wrong when he does it, wrong to do it to him. ---
