The name actually was established as Senors originally. But only for 9 days, then it was changed to the third choice which was Raiders. Speculation at the time was that the contest winners was rigged, and Soda picked the name himself. None of that is verified, but it seems awfully suspicious. Soda claimed that his first choice would have been “Mavericks”, but who knows if he was just covering or if that’s the truth. Here are some other names considered: Admirals, Lakers, Diablos, Seawolves, Gauchos, Nuggets, Dons, Costers, Grandees, Sequoias, Missiles, Knights, Redwoods, Clippers, Jets and Dolphins. ---
