When I needed something to rhyme with ‘rectum’, I coined ‘ejectum’, meaning something something forcibly ejected, but with a Latin flair… .

And while not a word, In the mid-70’s I did invent the phrase, ‘Have a good one’, and watched it work it’s way to the East Coast over a period of years. (I know it sounds lame now; I’ll try to do better next time. 🙂

I got to thinking, what do we do when we’ve used up the word “postmodern”? If we’re living in postmodern times now, then what do we call the times **after** postmodern times?

So I coined a word: **cyberzoic.** It sounds cool, it’s got “cyber” in it, “-zoic” is an established suffix in the names of geological periods, and it’s vague enough that it could mean anything or nothing (just like “postmodern”).

I hereby declare 2004 the first year of the Cyberzoic Era!

Does changing the meaning of the word count?

I’ve decided to change the meaning of the word _skank_. Now, it’s another word for steal. Ex: I’m going to go skank me some food.

It works so well. I will not stop until we all use skank to steal.

George W. has made up quite a few words, hasn’t he? Anybody care to post a list?

As for me, I can’t think of any words I’ve made up. At least, none that I’ve come to use regularly. However, I have made up some of my own curses, which I use quite often.

“Just for the halibut.”
“Crap on a stick!”
“Sweat on a donkey’s anus/monkey’s balls!”

And a “no-prize” goes to anybody who can guess where I pilfered this one…

“Son of a Paul!”

The only common curses I tend to use are “ass”, “bastard” and “bitch”. I also tend to use “crap” rather than “shit”, and very rarely use Christian-based curses - despite not being the most “devout” Christian.

Anyhoo…

All of these are cat-related:

fuffah–quality of being very fluffy or fuzzy

fuzzity or fuzzurty-- used instead of fuzzy

phussie–a portmanteau combining “fuzzy” and “pussy” because it’s just not OK anymore to call your cats “pussies” anymore, more’s the pity

Ramoose–honorific term of affection for a cat, pronounced with the “r” rolled; affixed to the end of a cat’s name

Yes, I realize I need to get out more.

Machiavellian Libertarian: there is no such thng as freedom, only power.

I invented that 3 years ago and saw someone claim to be one on a website a few months ago.

Neuron Torpedo: a set of information which is totally logical and irrefutable

haven’t seen anyone else use it.

Unfortunately, this is already a word, a medical term meaning the phobic avoidance of light, for example with meningitis.

Ah, how unfortunate. Is there any exclusive word for photograph I could use? Photograph-phobic isn’t quite catchy. 😉

One of my husband’s philosophy professors at the University of San Diego often used the term “omni-nifty” instead of omnipotent or omnipresent or whatever.

I forget if it was Emily or myself who first used “wordsmithsmanship,” which is in a way the subject of this thread.

I coined to use the phrase “Kung Ju” to describe the Hebraic martial arts. And I swear that I had never heard anyone use the epithet “Captain Obvious” when I first used it in… maybe 1995, referring to myself.

I would suspect that there’s already a word for a fear of being photographed. There seems to be “-phobias” for practically everything else. Someone should do a search for that one. (Maybe me…)

(I’ve been lurking here for months but registered so I could reply to this thread, since I had a few words that I helped to invent. So, hi everybody!)

It’s only one letter off from nifty, but I’ve found the word nift to be more versatile. I invented this one myself; the others were coined with friends.

Stip means “To strip without sexual intent.” The only occasion we’ve found for it so far is “I’ll stip out of my good clothes and put on something else to paint the set.”
“Osh” is a lesser level of “Odd,” in the way that gosh is a euphemism for god. (Both of these were giving meanings after accidently said- stip was a mistyping of stop; I’m still not sure what my friend meant to say when she said “osh.”)

Finally, “Orodox.” We still don’t know what that one means, but we take full credit for it.

TOTBP- You aren’t the sole inventor of “Crap on a stick”. I’ve been using it for a few years now.

I now know that others have used this word, but I did come up with it independently. When an acquaintance of mine constantly complained how white she was, even after constant trips to the tanning beds had rendered her nut-brown, I dubbed her **tanorexic**.
