Um, maybe Kitfox is stuck somewhere in the Cold War, and thinks “Evil Empire” is the opposite of “Great Satan”? 
Nope, Russians aren’t terrorists, nor am I stuck in the Cold War.
This is actually pretty simple.
If terrorists are freedom fighters, and terrorists attack the Western Nations in fighting for their freedom, then when we become the freedom fighters, we should attack the Eastern Nations to fight for ours.

Seriously, I know it’s only spitballing, but the logistics alone of a terrorist takeover of the American Government are a mind-numbingly difficult task to overcome, never mind actually pulling it off. Keeping in mind that if there were soldiers equal in all cases to our troops, that is takes an average of five people to support one soldier.
Besides, the only way that would ever be possible is subsequent to a massive and horribly precise nuclear attack, which we’d have to simply not see coming. That’s not so likely after 9/11.
I’ll direct your attention to the supposedly declassified documentation that said German U-Boats snuck their asses up the left coast and upon inspection decided even then that Americans were too well armed, and too dedicated to the cause of freedom to be effectively overrun by a fighting force. (no, i have no proof of this document, in fact, it may be false, but it illustrates my point) And that was way back before they had phones everywhere in the country.
Now, a force that comes aboard these shores in an attempt to take over ain’t gonna get very far without some very sophisticated planning, a whole helluva lot of financing and some serious organization, and seeing as how we’ve got our dirty little fingers in everybody’s pie, we’re not likely to miss a million plus heavily armed and trained fighters and their supporting cast of like 5 million, heading this way.
As for me, I’ll be on the front lawn with my rifle in one hand and my flag in the other, stackin up the bodies like cord wood.

It’s no suprise really, they really had big dreams back then. Still, I wonder how much different that Germany would have been from the Islamic Extremists today. I wonder if the civilians, at least the ones who didn’t resist violently, would be spared from abject violence. It’s an interesting potential debate.

Help me out here: do you mean that the terrorists attacking the West are performing an illogical action - just as illogical as us attacking Russia? As in you could have said China instead of Russia?
Apparently, you are stuck in the Cold War. “The West” was originally used in contrast to “the Orient” (i.e. the Mideast and Far East). I suppose that during the Cold War, it was sometimes used to contrast with the Eastern bloc countries. Now, it basically means the United States and Europe and has nothing to do with georgraphy.
The problem terrorist groups will have on coming to power anywhere in the Mideast is that the violent factions have grown so accustomed to killing over so many years, it will be impossible to stop. Sating the bloodlust is an end in itself. The new rulers* will have to purge their uncontrollable fanatics (who will likely meet fates similar to Roehm and the S.A.) in order to steady things down.
