What would you do if when you died....

I think you’ve just written it.

I think my first question would be “why am I simulating a second life?” The life I’m living now is decent enough but not one for the history books so why would the newly awakened me have done this?

Second - even if everybody that’s around me is simulated, are they less real? Science Fiction has already broached the subject, but if you have a simulated AI that is sentient, does that make it real? My brain waves are processed in meat, an AI’s brainwaves are processed in silicon - but both take inputs, process them, and then take action in their world. Even if the other people in my simulation are “simulated” they’re still real as far as I’m concerned and I’m assuming I could visit them again which would give me some degree of comfort.

This meme of a simulated world goes waaaaaaayyyyyyy back before The Matrix. It’s just a fresh wrapper on the concept of an afterlife. Pre-computer the afterlife had to be created and managed by God or magic. Now, with computers, it can be created by a programmer and managed by system administrators. But in the end - the concept of continuing life is exactly the same.

Well, it would be pointless to say what WE would do since WE wouldn’t be US anymore once pulled from the pod, we’d go back to whoever that guy/gal that got into the pod would be, so who knows what he/she would do. Probably not what we would do, or there’d be little point in the entire simulation make him/her think he/she was us.
