Of movies I actually paid to see I agree partially with Joe\_Cool, _Event Horizon_ and _Godzilla (1998)_ were the worst. I thought _Lost World_ and _Deep Blue Sea_ were 2-star, sub-par movies (and I rented _Sea_). Did anybody like actually like _Mimic_, _Species 2_, _Virus_ or _Deep Rising_? Truly awful. You just can’t make up for a bad script with special effects. Or maybe it was just the style I didn’t like–I kinda liked _Pitch Black_, which wasn’t exactly Oscar material… ---

Tarzan, The Ape Man. The one with Bo Derek and Richard Harris. This one was so bad, even Bo Derek naked couldn’t possibly overcome the pain of having to hear her try to speak some of the worst dialog ever written, or even just having to hear her speak (is there anyone who gives a better impression of empty headed?). Besides my own incredibly low opinion, these tidbits from the IMDB are telling: Movie critic Leonard Maltin said it was so bad, they nearly had to invent a rating worse than ‘Bomb’. Newsday called it ‘unendurable’. It was nominated for Razzies (a bad movie award) in the following categories: Worst Actress - Bo Derek Worst Actor - Richard Harris Worst Director - John Derek Worst New Star - Miles O’Keefe Worst Screenplay Worst Picture Bo Derek won for Worst Actress. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie that was quite as bad. Ugly ---

For truly putrid acting, those two pointless and inane Brooke Shields vehicles _Blue Lagoon_ and _Endless Love_. **Models should not be allowed to act.** Examples: Tanya Roberts in one of those James Bond movies, Kathy Ireland in some football movie…these women may be beautiful, but they can’t act. They can’t! Their acting was so bad, I just wanted to fling feces at the screen. I think the worst movies are those that are supposed to be some kind of masterpiece, a truly egregious example of which is _Legends of the Fall_. I was dragged to this movie by some friends who LOVED Brad Pitt. This movie contained every single freaking cliche ever spawned - the naive idealistic youngest brother, the straight-laced uptight elder brother, the rebellious free spirit brother who affects a ponytail (Brad) and how they vie for their father’s love and approval. The death of the idealist. The around-the-world voyage/quest made by the free spirit brother in which he finds himself and grows lots of facial hair. The rivalry between the uptight brother and the free spirit. How the uptight guy feels overshadowed by the free spirit and how they realize they need each other at the end. The fight over the woman (who does nothing but rock and moan the whole time, etc etc etc. But I have to admit, the scenery was pretty nice. It kept me from going insane during those interminable 2 hours. ---

**Eyes Wide Shut** is the worst movie I have recently seen. I kept waiting for something, anything, that was interesting to happen. AND IT NEVER DID!!! What a stupid, stupid movie. I also must back up **Groundhog Day** and **Dr. Strangelove** as masterpieces in the comedy department. ---

Are you guys talking about **bad** movies? Because you really haven’t mentioned very many yet. _The Stoned Age_, _Where the Heart Is_, _Cherry 2000_, _Hell Comes to Frogtown_, (and _Return to Frogtown_), and the one that outranks them all, _The Beerdrinker’s Guide to Fitness and Filmmaking_, a “film” that will have you rueing the day you developed eyesight. ---

**Highlander II** sucked. (The first one is still one of my favorites.) This is not a ‘lauded’ film, but… **The Honeymoon Killers** is apparently used celluloid toilet paper. It was not meant to be viewed – someone forgot to flush. While in college, some of my buddies came over to my place to watch it – I still get rude comments about it (ten years later), and I didn’t pick the movie out, it was just my apartment. _It wasn’t my fault._ ☹ ---

It was a nice light comedy, with at least one scene – the arms auction – as good as any bit of comedy on screen (certainly better than anything Jim Carrey has ever done, for instance). It’s sensibility was a bit dated, but it was overall a very pleasant bit of entertainment. **Groundhog Day** Not a great film, but certainly a good one. **Dune** A failure, but an honorable one. The material defeated Lynch, who tried mightily. Others I should have mentioned: Godzilla (the Emerich remake) Starship Troopers – pretty dumb film. Paul Verhoeven is probably the worst popular director ever. ---

The original Blues Brothers is my favorite movie ever. I knew the sequel wouldn’t be as good since everyone who made the first one great was dead, or a shell of their former selves (cough cough AYKROYD). So when I rented it (blink and you missed it in theaters), I tried to give it a chance based on its own. No way. It was seriously unwatchable. \*\* I’ll admit, BB2K was a stupid movie. It’s kinda hard to believe that Elwood hadn’t heard of Jake’s death. What salvaged the movie for me was the end, when all those great musicians played. Here are a few that I haven’t seen on the list: **The man who knew to little.** ( Great idea that never left the ground. I never finished the video. Too bad for Bill Murray, a perennial favoriteof mine and the only movie of his that just sucked.) \*\*Ghosts can’t do it. \*\*( A -I guess- Soft porn Bo Derek crap fest that I was mesmerized through the whole thing to wonder just how in the hell does a movie like this get funding?) \*\*Long Kiss Goodnight & Cutthroat Island \*\*- During a Geena Davis film festival weekend at my house, I rented these two craptacular pieces and have since sworn off all of her movies, prior, present and future.(Except _A League of their Own._) The woman,btw, cannot run to save her life. She looks like the Scarecrow when she runs. She also cannot act. My husband wanted to put in his two bits and nominate \*\*Very Bad Things \*\* **English Patient** Why is this movie so popular? Rafe Fiennes has the acting range of a stroke victim on medication. Am I missing something? ---

Mrs. Cal and I agree – we HATE The English Patient. What was all the fuss about? While we’re at it, she hated The Ice Storm, too. And I didn’t like Last Year at Marienbad. Mike Medved was right. Plus the guy who played the matchstick game had no idea what he was doing. That’s it – we’re obviously neanderthals. ---

Mrs. ricepad and I started watching **Lost In Space** (on video) the other day, and could only take 15 minutes of it. We would have stopped after 5 minutes, but we kept hoping it would get better. It didn’t. ---

I really hated the English Patient, too, but the worst movie of all time is. . . man, I can’t even think of the title. It was totally bizarre–these creepy, androygenous models in New Wave Manhattan who are all addicted to heroin, but there’s this alien who lives inside one of their bodies because it thrive on the drugs, but soon sex gave it the same “chemical nourishment” (quote from the back of the box), but after she has sex, it makes her partners explode or something. Terrible plot, awful camera skills and special effects, and the worst acting ever. God, it was the most spectacularly bad movie ever made! ---
