I sprang for a Kindle daily deal and am enjoying _The Unquiet Bones_ by Mel Starr. It’s sort of a medieval CSI. A young surgeon is asked by the local lord to investigate a murder. The Amazon review praises the “realistic medical procedures, droll medieval wit, romantic distractions, and a consistent sense of Christian compassion.” ETA: Off to Amazon to pre-order Joe Hill’s new book. ---

So, I finished _Gone Girl_. Oof. That was…weird. I don’t know who to feel sorry for, or whether it ended exactly as it should’ve. Huh. I think that one’s going to have me thinking about it for a while. Now I’m rereading _The Long Walk_. Good stuff. ---

Short answer is that it’s called _NOS4A2_ and “won’t be out until April of 2013 at the earliest.” So there’s a bit of a wait. Apologies if “upcoming” was misleading. ---

What about picking up an old favorite? I’ve been re-reading classic short stories: Saki and Ray Bradbury. Started this while walking around SF with only a book in my back pocket. Oh, and I just posted this in the “Do people look at you askance because you like to read books?” thread: My go-to “Recharge Myself” activity is sitting in a tiny little coffee joint (out of the way-- important that no one knows I’m there, and no one I know is going to walk in). With a stack of kids’ books. I just started teaching a tough semester, so this afternoon it’s some comic books and an old copy of _The Missing Chums_ (I gotta find out if they’ll get rescued by Joe and Frank Hardy). ---
