Whatcha Readin' Nov 2010 Edition

Well, we know he was in the Foreign Legion at one point …

Sadly, GMF did not live long enough to actually write that adventure.

Whoa! What an image! Good ol’ Flashy. That cover instantly brings to mind one time in Bangkok, when I … but never mind about that. We all know Flashman is a pathetic coward, but that does not necessarily mean he would ever turn French, although it’s easy to see why it would qualify him for citizenship.

Wow, you’ve flown through those books!

There are a few chapters of book 21 available - what little O’Brian had written before he died, but there’s not much to them. My book has a copy of the handwritten last few pages, and the neatest thing is a quick sketch laying out the dinner party he was writing about. Those dinners are among my favorite scenes in the series.

So, I didn’t finish Dearly Devoted Dexter by Jeff Lindsay. It only took a few track of the audiobook to highlight why I didn’t continue reading the books earlier, despite enjoying the show: I hate the narration.

On the other hand, Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith is friggin’ brillant. It’s one of those books where you need to stop and remind yourself occasionally that there’s a lot of fiction mixed in with accurate historical accounts. Anyway, I loved it.

Today, now that nanowrimo is over, I picked up a couple of new books: Dark Flame by Alyson Noel (the series isn’t great, but it’s oddly appealing anyway) and The Island of Lost Girls by Jennifer McMahon. I’m also reading Time and Chance by Sharon Kay Penman, too, and I’m almost through with *Dead & Alive *by Dean Koontz, which as a solo act is much worse than the earlier books with a cowriter.
