One of the earliest comedy songs I remember being exposed to, via Dr. Demento. Going from memory here:
Which I read, I swear!
( :smack: :smack: :smack: )
Wait a minute–they’re supposed to be funny?
Plus dumped one on his head!
A “must”! Funniest thing I’ve seen since Hillary Andrews doing the weather.
My wife says to add the “Greater Tuna” guys for comedy duo. Personally, I didn’t find it very funny.
There are lots of minor ones that split up to launch one or two major careers [Kathy (Najimy) and Mo (Gaffney), (Tina) Fey & (Rachel) Dratch, Kenan and Kel].
The problem with most comedy duos is that one partner notices that he’s carrying the other. Cheech definitely carried Chong, and Franken for sure carried Davis.
They did a certain amount of stand-up in their live stage shows - I went to see them once, back in the 70s.
I don’t think they broke up as much as moved on. David Cross is a more popular performer, and has found a glorious niche as Tobias on Arrested Development (praying for ABC to saave!). His imdb list is massive. Odenkirk, on the other hand, seems to be happier to work in the background, writing and producing.
What about Girls Guitar Club?
I think this project may have fallen by the wayside, at least for the time being, as one of the members of the duo, Mary Lynn Rajskub, has been busy playing Chloe on 24. Still, they were a comedy duo.
Oh, man, I’m trying to wrap my head around this. Different strokes for different folks and all, but, man . . . I think of Way Out West and compare it to Tommy Boy . . .
Sorry, I’m better now. Carry on.
What’s so great about Laureal & Hardy, really?
It’s the same shtick movie after movie. Their jokes are low-brow, obvious and forgettable. Their personas seem clichè, even for the 1930s.
It seems like half their movies were meeting a Zombie or a Werewolf or a g-g-g-g-ghost. Hardly funnier than anything Scooby & Shaggy did in any 20 minute cartoon.
They weren’t even as funny as Abbott & Costello, not to mention any other film stars from that era. . .Marx Brothers or W.C Fields or Chaplin.
I’m not going to put Spade and Farley on some pedestal, but as far as Fat Guy/Skinny Guy pairings, I don’t think comparing them to Laurel & Hardy is much of a stretch.
Like I said, different strokes for different folks. I’m thinking in particular of Laurel and Hardy’s timing and physical comedy (where I would put them up against W.C. Fields, who I also love, any day), but I can understand if they’re not everyone’s cup of tea. But as for “It seems like half their movies were meeting a Zombie or a Werewolf or a g-g-g-g-ghost,” are you thinking of Abbot and Costello instead? This doesn’t sound like the Laurel and Hardy I remember.
