Do you know the site that lets a person buy books for soldiers in Iraq?
I know my friend, who is back home now, really liked getting books and I know there was website that let soldiers make requests. But I don’t recall it now.

I’m not sure if this is the site you were asking about, but Operation Paperback provides solicits book donations to deployed soldiers.
A couple more links to pass along, Kitchen Table Gang provides contact information for people looking to support deployed soldiers as does America Supports You
Thank you, Zebra, I hadn’t thought about how good it is to relax with a book.

I second this. Any reading material will be appreciated, even slightly outdated magazines.
And decent toilet paper. Seriously.
If money is really no object, a Satellite phone and/or a good GPS unit. Oh and beef jerkey.
From the sounds of things a well thought out care package might go over well.
While surprises are always nice here at home, this is one case where asking what he’d prefer would work best. He may have little need for body armor, he may already have access to plenty of console games, etc.
Perhaps a variety of entertainment choices would be nice. Throw in a laptop/PSP/game system, books, magazines, DVDs, music, and plenty of beef jerky…who doesn’t love beef jerky, really.
