I have no earthly idea how women got the idea that men’s cars are an extension of our penises.
Some do. Like my mother-in-law, she always talked about the car my father-in-law drove when they started dating. She’s no mental giant but she’s a nice person and seemed to be a good wife.
There are definitely exceptions. And other women might notice and like it when a guy has a cool car, but it will probably be further down on the list after many other attributes.
So if you want to spend a few extra thousand dollars to get a cooler car because you want to, then go ahead, get something you like. But if you are spending extra money to get a car that will impress women, then it’s more of a waste of money.
By and large what women notice about a man’s car is that it’s new-ish, clean, and doesn’t get in the way of his life. Like, know what’s a great car for picking up chicks? A late model VW Jetta. It looks like the sort of car people drive when they’re newlyweds.
Maybe look at the Acura TSX, it’s built on the European/global Accord platform so it’s a bit smaller but otherwise totally reliable, it has a bit of an upscale vibe to it without being saddled with the badge snobbery of a BMW, and it’s not terribly expensive.
Reliable
Reasonably priced
Looks good to chicks
Pick any two and get back to us.
Somewhere there’s a video of two guys driving around in a rat rod and a new Lamborghini. Almost without fail , the rat rod got the interest of the women and the Lambo got the interest of the guys. Here it is…
So if you want to get the interest of the ladies, build yourself a hotrod but try to avoid douchemods (You’ll know them when you see them…underbody lighting and giant spoilers on a Fwd come to mind…)
Ah, chicks. I can offer this insight:
Why do chicken coops have two doors?
Because if they had four doors, they’d be chicken sedans!
Honey it aint your money, cause I’ve got plenty of that.
I love you for your pink Cadillac!
Jet black Toyota RAV4 with black after market rims…
The “base” model will be fine, but since you’ll want the V-6, you must purchase a 2013 or earlier model.
This will only set you back 15K or so in Chicagoland.
.
Pardon me while I laugh hysterically. I’ve had three Subarus. Fine cars. They’ll carry canoes and lumber and plow through 16" of snow no problem. There is no evidence whatsoever that any of this is, in any way, impressive to women.
I do that with my penis.
I vote (newest model) Mazda 3 too - looks nice with a sporty driving feel (see Car & Driver’s 10 best list)…actual made-in-Japan reliability (I think Mazda is 2nd to Lexus in the latest Consumer Report quality rankings)…available in either sedan or hatchback in a variety of trim/options levels.
Another vote for the Mazda 3. I have a new (to me) 2012 Sport - the base model - and I love it. But the 2015 sedan - damn, that’s one beautiful car.
Ford no longer makes any of those models, 'cos, you know, changing demographics: The customers all died.
I drove an '01 Continental as a daily driver from 2003 until 2011, and was in my early 30’s at the start. I was a little worried people would think I was an old man with a hat, but it was a gorgeous car, had the bells and whistles I like, and man, was it quick: 275hp/275ft-lbs. I definitely wasn’t an old man with a hat.
How about the MKZ? Everyone keeps mentioning the Mazda 3, but personally I find it too small. The MKZ gives you more body sealer, thicker glass, and more sound deadening versus the Fusion, has proven reliability, and is pretty fun to drive. Current MK3 is Ford European design, older models are Mazda, so any MKZ has excellent heritage.
I’m tempted to say Harley but you did specify car and China Guy is right.
FYI- the Mazda3 sedan is now made in Mexico, but the 5-door/Hatchback is still made in Japan.
The Mazda3 was recognized by ALG (Automotive Lease Guide) as having the highest residual (or retained) value of any car in its class. You’ll find that 2014 and 2015 used models are only a few thousand bucks cheaper than a brand new one. It’s much like Honda/Acura products in the 80s and 90s.
I mentioned the Infiniti G37 in my first posting. But I failed to note that it is offered as a 4-door sports sedan or a 2-door coupe (a fancy Nissan 350Z, basically).
I also wanted to suggest taking a look at the Volvo S60. I’ve liked them for years but in February (of this year) I finally leased a new one for my 40th birthday. I got the high-performance T6 model with 19" wheels, sport seats and a 302hp turbocharged & supercharged 4-cylinder. It is fast, quiet and has the most comfortable seats I’ve ever sat in. It also looks sharp and, in my opinion, a Volvo is upscale without being ostentatious like Mercedes or Lexus.
Yup. And the price is right. I could pick up a shiny new one with the “leatherette” seats, the nice sound, 150 horsepower, 40 mpg highway for under 25k.
Huh. I took the comment as a joking reference to the stereotype that lesbians love Subarus (they’ve done ad campaigns targeting them, iirc). So while it would appeal to chicks, it wouldn’t help the OP.
I’ve owned four Porsches, a BMW Z4 roadster, M Coupe, several motorcycles, Fiat 500, Smart Fortwo, MINI Cooper, and a Rolls-Royce. In my experience, women aren’t much interested in what you drive. That said, the most positive comments I ever got on a car was a Pontiac Solstice. I’m talking yelling “Nice car!” on the street, laying in wait in parking lots to ask about it, asking about it at gas stations, etc. It’s the only car I’ve owned that pretty much no guy ever mentioned but lots of women did. Not too pricey and pretty reliable, but cargo space is laughably small, less than any sports car I’ve owned.
