With apologies to David Foster Wallace (In his book he describes going on a cruise…It’s supposed to be so wonderful; he obviously didn’t think so) - what pop or high culture entertainment is supposed to be so good but you personally wouldn’t do it again? For me - Walt Disney World (though I’d probably take my daughter so she could have the supposedly fun experience). also - carnival sideshows and county fair midways are fun-fun things I can certainly do without. How about you? Parades? Petting zoos? ---

Done it just for the experience, so to speak? Snowboarding is supposedly fun. Eh. Not for me. Tried it, got tired of falling on my butt all the time and being cold. Chuck E Cheese is allegedly fun, but I’ll never step into one of those places. ---

When I first tried water-skiing, I was appalled at how much _work_ it was to stay up. I’ve never been a very physical person, and this quickly became something I no longer wanted to do. I think I gave it maybe 5 minutes, and I’ve never tried it again. ---

In the early '80s I tried cocaine once, at a party. This was during the period when everybody was saying how cool it was, and how safe, and how nobody could get hooked on it. Whew. Am I glad I didn’t like it all that much. I would certainly never use it again. ---

Agree with much of the above, especially mountain sports. Too cold and too expensive. I got invited to a fancy-pants country club society party, duly went, and was quite underwhelmed. Hope I never have to do that again. ---

Yeah, I’d never go on a cruise again. I guess I need to bring along a suitcase full of ten million dollars just so I could bask in how filthy rich I was. It was just _water_. For miles and miles. Out of two weeks, we spent four days _doing something interesting_. So boring. So dull. So not relaxing in any way, shape, or form. And Disney World is a piece of crap, too. Ixnay on that one, as well. ---

Mardi Gras (in New Orleans, of course). I love the city, and I always have a good time there. But Mardi Gras amplifies everything negative about N’awlins: crowds are too thick, smells are too nauseating, drunks are too belligerent, general vibe is too dangerous. I’ll go back any week except that one. ---

For my bachelor party, I wanted to go skydiving. Not the static line/tandem business, but a genuine freefall–the whole dealio. Did it and had a blast. Not a disappointment in the slightest. But now that I’ve done it once, I never need to do it again. ---

Parasailing. I really, really hate heights, but I was hoping the spectacular view would take my mind away. Didn’t work. I spent the whole time gripping the harness gear with white knuckles, staring down at the water below (“it’s so **far**!”), and listening to every creak and pop of the ropes and fasteners as if it presaged a catastrophic equipment failure that would lead to my death (“we’re in **Mexico**! there’s no safety regulation! aaaaaaa”). I was hugely relieved to get back on the boat. My mother had paid for us to go out, so I pretended to enjoy it, but I’ll never do it again. ---

Disney World. I’ve been a few times with my family and once with my high school band, and have vowed that I will never go again, because it would be my money getting spent instead of my parents’. I don’t like rides anyway, so my favorite part is the geeky stuff at Epcot, which no one else seems to like. ---

White water rafting. The rapids were not nearly as exciting as I thought they would be, and during the calm parts the people from the two rafts threw buckets of freeeeezing water at each other. I’m told this is typical. I’m weird–I don’t mind getting wet too much, but I really hate water fights. I know, that’s not rational. But I hate 'em anyway. Having cold water dumped on you in buckets is about the worst way to get wet, too. Big, drunken parties. I don’t get it – they’re noisy, messy, everyone is making asses of themselves, and often most of the people there don’t even know each other. Anything involving more than about 10 people, esp. if large amounts of alcohol are involved, I tend not to enjoy at all. But I do like Disney World.
