# What's an accurate bathroom scale?

or locker room scale? Or whatever you call it…

My son is on the wrestling team and needs to know his exact weight before a match. What’s a good scale we can buy for him?

You can look at the recommendations on [consumersearch.com](http://consumersearch.com) as a start: [bathroom scales](http://www.consumersearch.com/bathroom-scales). For truly consistent and honestly accurate measurements, there is no substitute for a beam scale. The [Health O Meter Physician scale](http://www.amazon.com/Health-Meter-Physician-Balance-Scale/dp/B0009MFUZY/) is rated highly at Amazon, but it is somewhat pricey at $141 (but inexpensive for a beam scale).

If you can’t go the beam route, know that modern digital scales are far more accurate than the dial models.

Why is that? I’ve always assumed the opposite. Good to know, though!
