Hostage negotiations.
We had people who were trained in these negotiations. If I was lucky, one of them would be readily available when a situation occurred (and these situations are rare).
The downside was that if one of the trained negotiators wasn’t available, I was usually the next person in line to do the negotiations. So I was the person who was most likely to be confronting a situation like this with no specific training.
