The aforementioned pizza was not had last night as I discovered a frozen steak and mushroom pie while rummaging in the freezer, so that was had instead with 5-minute fries. Pizza will be had tonight. Incidentally, to answer the hypothetical question, “are McCain frozen 5-minute fries the best fries in the world?”, certainly not! But when properly done in an air fryer, they’re pretty much identical to McDonald’s fries – nothing special, and surprisingly just like fries that have been cooked in hot oil. The best fries are the ones I make by slicing up a baking potato, soaking the slices for a few hours in cold water, tossing with olive oil, Herbs de Provence, and garlic salt, then air frying. They look like this: > [@Where did steak fries go?](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/where-did-steak-fries-go/1028159/2): > > These things? Up here, everyone calls them ‘jojos’. They are available just about everywhere. ‘Steak fries’, as I know them, are more like ‘2 by 6 lumber’ in proportion, and are usually just seasoned with salt. --- _[View the full topic](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/whats-for-dinner-tonight-episode-2021-a-new-hope/931015)._
