I think P&E is the right spot for this. For the last 5 years (4 yrs, 10 mos) we have been without a confirmed Comptroller of the Currency. In that time, there have been four acting comptrollers. Notice that the time has spanned from Trump 1 through Biden to Trump 2 and as of now we still have an Acting Comptroller. What’s going on with that? ---

For reference, according to Copilot, “The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) is an independent bureau within the United States Department of the Treasury. It charters, regulates, and supervises all national banks, federal savings associations, and federal branches and agencies of foreign banks. The Comptroller of the Currency is the administrator of the federal banking system and head of the OCC.” May we presume this to be correct? ---

Well, that matches what I remember from US Government class and also what’s in Wikipedia. The Comptroller is a presidentally-appointed, Senate-approved position, so there are always the partisan complications. ---

This. If you don’t absolutely need a permanent Comptroller, and apparently you don’t, then why have one? The earth continues to rotate on its axis without one.
