Wrong. I have twice had the oil pressure switch give up out on the highway and begin to drain the sump dry. Because I carry a container of oil i have been able to reach the next garage without the engine seizing.
I love the irony though. The only time my oil pressure light has come on is because of the failure of the $4 part that makes it come on.
