I’m one of the Dockless ones. I suppose something’s in it (the Trash can if nothing else) but I wouldn’t know, it’s never running long enough for me to notice. ---

finder AOL Communicator iChat AOL Safari Address Book (unused, but I’ve not removed it for some reason) Calendar (ditto) iPhoto Finding Nemo iTunes Word Excel System Prefs Quicken Calculator iMovie I keep the dock on the left side of the screen. With a wide screen iMac, that just seems the best place for it. ---

Mine’s left to right. My screen’s only 1024x768, else it’d be on the left. Finder, iTunes, Quicktime Player, VLC, System Preferences, HP Scanner, Image Capture (for the digicam), TextEdit (my HTML editor), AppleWorks, GraphicConverter, Preview (bye bye Acrobat Reader!), JediKnight2 (IRC, though I never use it), Poisoned, Safari, iChat. ---

Mine’s on the right side of the screen; there isn’t much room at the bottom, and somehow the right feels more natural; maybe it’s because the mouse is on the right. Mine used to be on the right, but since I got a second monitor (flat panel Apple Cinema Display! Woo hoo!), I moved it to the bottom. I use [DragThing](http://www.dragthing.com/) so pretty much ALL of my apps are in play. I divide them by use (all of my video editing apps on one tab, my internet related apps on another etc…). I love DragThing…been a user for a long time. ---

I am a left side of the screen dock guy myself. My dock just has the standard apps that come with OS X…since I just got my iMac a couple weeks ago and am still working on customizing it, getting software, etc. My first Mac!!! And to be honest, I know how to add stuff to the Dock, but not how to remove stuff! Looks like I’ll be playing with the Dock when I get home. I am surprised by the number of people that don’t have GarageBand in their Dock. Outside of setting up my mail and iTunes Library, GarageBand is the only thing I used so far and I love it. Incredibly easy and fun! ---

I have mine arranged so that each icon is visually distinct from the ones on either side of it, to decrease the chance of mis-clicking. Finder (blue square) System Preferences (white square–here the system broke down a bit) TexShop (brown triangle) Mail (Blue square) Firefox (orange and blue circle) X Windows (White square) Powerpoint (orange P) iTunes (Gray circle) Skychart (Black square) Interwrite PRS (purple circle) Preview(blue square) TeaTimer (White, uh . . . teacup-shaped) I swap stuff in and out of my dock constantly, according to what my current project/obsessions are. ---
