Try heading north for that–Richardson, Addison, Plano, the nice parts of Dallas. There’s no shortage of “new money wannabes” in DFW.
FWIW, if I was moving to the DFW area (I live in a rural area outside city limits NW of Dallas), Mesquite wouldn’t be particularly high on my list. Although it’s far enough away from Dallas proper that you could probably find some affordable acreage within commuting distance, if that’s your thing.
I went by that area a few days ago and it just seems to have a concrete maze feel to it, everything seems so far away. I’m sure it’s a bit more upscale in those areas, it’s kind of blue collar down here. I suppose the rent up there reflects its desirability too. Maybe I will give it another shot up there and see what I think.
If you explained what you were looking for in a DFW neighorhood I’m sure the DFW dopers could chime in with some advice. I’m only familiar with a few areas, having only moved here a couple years ago.
Thanks. Well I’m not really sure at this point. I think I can pretty much tolerate any area that’s somewhat cheap and safe. It doesn’t bother me to move in a coupe years if I find things aren’t working out in a certain area, but I don’t want to pay twice as much rent just to find out.
Well… If he’s working in Mesquite (just guessing because that’s where he is now), wouldn’t he have a fairly nasty commute? 35E can really suck…
If he’s working someplace farther north though, Lewisville would certainly fit his “somewhat cheap and safe” criteria. I lived there while I was saving up for a house–there’s a pretty big cluster of apartment complexes near and along 121B in the south part of the city. There’s some pretty cheap ones too (I was paying $619/month for a 800-something square foot 2 bedroom) although you certainly get what you pay for…
That’s right, I will be working close to Mesquite. I don’t mind at all trading a bit of ambience in my living conditions for a shorter commute. I just go to the store once a week and spend the rest of my life online anyway.
