I hate to shop. Hate. I heart the internet. When I needed a new swimsuit this year, instead of going to the mall and getting frustrated and angry and still not finding anything, I logged onto Lands’ End. I ordered five different swimsuits. When they came, I tried them on and liked one of them. I sent the rest back. I’ve never had a more pleasant swimsuit shopping experience. I know you have to pay for shipping and return shipping – except for Zappos – but it’s so worth it.
The only thing I like shopping for in person is yarn, and even then you can’t always get the quantity or color that you want, so I’ll order online sometimes.
Now that I can do the majority of my shopping online, I’ll even stop by the mall sometimes and flip through the sales racks at a couple of stores. If I never find anything there, I don’t care, because I can always get stuff online – so the pressure and frustration is taken completely out of the picture. It’s a beautiful thing.
Last year before I went on a trip I got a new pair of work/walk everywhere shoes. (Keens - cute AND super-comfy!) Anyway, halfway through my first day of wearing them I realized they were defective - there was a fold in the leather inside the shoe that irritated my foot. The Zappos return policy is quite forgiving, but very specific - 365 days, unworn. I e-mailed them anyway and asked if there was anything that could be done, because after all they were defective.
Not only did they say, sure, this one time we’ll take them back. That’s what I expected. They also said (and they responded within the hour, by the way) that they’d appreciate it if I sent that pair back ASAP, because they’d already sent my replacement.
You won’t find that even at a brick and mortar anymore. I’ll be loyal to that company until the day I die, I swear.
My husband and I just had a sofa custom made. I’d seen an ad for Nautica Home with an upholstered chair that I loved, and really wanted that fabric for our new sofa. The sofa shop had it available – at $45/yard (and we needed 16 yards). Not only did Joann carry that exact same fabric, and not only was their regular retail price cheaper at $35/yard, but I got it on sale for $17.49/yard, and free shipping! That saved us over $440.00, and that’s not chump change!
I love online shopping. Not only can I get nicer clothes online w/out the hassle of dragging myself from store to store, I can also get stuff from overseas that I’d probably never find otherwise.
I’m reading this thread, at 4:30 ish in the morning, and there’s a link to X. X leads me to some link Y. Which reminds of a song I haven’t heard in ages. (I hate to say 30 years cuz it’s makes me feel old…) Said song leads me to amazon.com, which lets me order, from the comfort of my home, perhaps in my undies… lets me order said CD containing said song, which will be here by wednesday. Thursday at the latest.
There’s what’s good about online shopping. Purchasing on-demand… anytime… 24/7.
I like online shopping for most of the reasons everyone else mentioned. I worked 3rd shift the last four years, so being able to shop, esp. to pick up yarn & other needlework stuffs at 3:00 am on Saturday means I can sleep in. My daughters, son-in-law, & grandson posted wishlists on Amazon.com, so birthdays & Christmas are easy to buy for. My husband has a thing for off-the-wall t-shirt sayings, so off to What On Earth I go.
