What's so great about American citizenship?

I’m curious about this as well. Which countries have tax rates less than five percent?

Well, we have a 0% income tax rate in Cayman.

No taxes. However we do have use fees, license fees, stamp duty, import duty, registration fees… *

Sigh… a rose by any other name…

  • The distinction isn’t entirely meaningless. I can offset my US income tax owed by what I pay in local income taxes, but not generally by what I pay in all these other forms of payment to government.

Anything you want we got it right here in the USA.

Even in the Navy! I’ve heard we’ve just introduced a rail-gun that move motionless lead-slugs tremendous distances at speeds near Mach 7.

Now, if only we can modify it to run on Deadbeats who won’t pay their taxes, we can even save them Airfare!

The intended countries can either have new emigrants or, with just a simple change of angle at the fire-control selector, free mulch for those tough-to-fertilize rural areas…

For some definitions of “anything.”

I want my third wife to serve me rare bald eagle steaks on a bed of coca leaves cooked on a bunsen burner that was brought in checked luggage.

You do realize that as an American, you’ll still be subject to paying US taxes when you live and work abroad. Whereas, I as a Canadian, don’t if I declare myself non-resident from Canada. I’m still a Canadian, though. Don’t have to give up passport.

Two weeks ago a friend just had the non-US company he works for in Hong Kong send him a form to fill out for the IRS.

I just set up a bank account last week in HK with Standard Chartered, a UK based bank. I gave them my HK ID and my Canadian Passport. I had to sign a waiver saying that I wasn’t a US citizen. As to why a Canadian living in Hong Kong has to sign a waiver saying he isn’t an American, I have no idea, nor why a foreign bank would agree to enforce such nonsense.

One word: FATCA.

Most of them died of disease, although plenty of atrocities were committed.

The A-bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were about as military justified as you can get for operations of this sort.

The US didn’t start the Korean War and I’m rather glad that the entirety of the Korean peninsula isn’t under the control of a wannabe Oceania.

That’s quite true, which is why the United States isn’t perfect.

No, but I believe the positive influence of the United States exceeds the negative.

Do you think Sweden or Germany are terrible places to live in?

Not seal or whale meat.

Doing some research, I find that some banks outside the US are now denying US citizens accounts and closing trading accounts due to the ‘onerous’ requirements.

You want whale meat? I can get you whale meat, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don’t wanna know about it, believe me. Hell, I can get you whale meat by 3 o’clock this afternoon… with garnish.
