What’s that nice ambient music Windows XP plays at the end of setup called? Any leads? ---

Windows ME here, but it’s probably the same. It’s called “Windows Default Sound Scheme” and on mine, if you don’t like it, you can change it. Start, Settings, Control Panel, Sounds and Multimedia, Sounds, it’s on the Sound Events list under “Start Windows”. Win ME comes with different Sound Schemes, like Jungle and Musica and Robotz, which are VERY cool to play with (Microsoft did one thing right). You can have jungle bird noises for Startup instead of the music. You can also import .wav files from wherever, if you want Startup to be accompanied by, say, police sirens or a drum roll. ---

I know the music you’re thinking of and I think we’re thinking of different things. This is a fairly long song that plays at the end of the XP setup procedure that will continue to play for several minutes (at least) and has a very nice atmospheric air to it. ---

I’m not sure of the music you’re referring to, but, Brian Eno composed the ambient bootup music used on Windows 95 & 98. I’ve read that the XP music is David Byrne’s [“Like Humans Do”](http://www.onmagazine.com/on-mag/magazine/article/0,9985,178745,00.html) “Start This Up What’s a Microsoft launch without rock ‘n’ roll? This time it’s David Byrne’s turn. “Like Humans Do,” a single from the former Talking Head’s latest album, plays when new Windows XP customers first run Windows Media Player. To thank Softies for the exposure, Byrne recently performed in Redmond (see a clip at [windowsmedia.com](http://windowsmedia.com)).
