What's the best deal you've ever gotten in a store?

I went to my local optometrist to get new glasses. I found out my prescription had not changed, so I asked to see the RecSpecs as I take a karate class and wanted to be able to fight and still see. So the sales lady showed me what she had and I selected a pair. When it was all done, I got the RecSpecs for $27 USD after she took off the amount my insurance covered, AND the promotional discount that they happened to be running.

Best deal of my life… a $200 pair of RecSpecs for $27.

They lasted 3 years.

That’s odd, because I was under the impression that casino workers were forbidden to pick up money off the floor. Several years ago, I was at a slot machine and there was a worker fixing the slot machine next to mine. He fixed it and walked away. Then, I noticed that the change tray was full of quarters, probably about 20 bucks worth, he didn’t touch them.

I also remember hearing a story about a casino cocktail lady coming up to a guy who was at a slot machine and saying “there’s a big bucket of quarters over there, unattended. if you go cash it in and split it with me (a tip), i’ll give you free drinks all night”. She said she would be fired if she cashed them in.

went to target during christmas closeout to get lights for the next year.

1 set of lights was marked for 23cents - we picked up the remaining cases - there were 4 of them - 20 sets per case.

In any world, thats a good deal.

In this target, the cashier rang up the CASE for 23cents (it had a barcode on it, it scanned) and she refused to listen that that was the per set price.

So, 80 sets of lights - for 92cents + tax.

The next best deal was a bit more costly, but suffice it to say I got my dream bass boat (Nitro 911 CDC) for less than half of the retail cost and it was brand new, from a dealer, not a repo, and had full warranty - all because it was ‘last years’ model.

Probably a difference in policy. This one was a Wisconsin “Indian” casino. Frankly, the way you heard it makes a hell of a lot more sense. I wonder how many people at this casino get ‘accidentally bumped’ by casino workers…

You should have just hid them under your hoodie. You could have had an even better deal!

No, what he should’ve done was write Home Depot HQ, with the clerk’s name, explaining how and why the clerk cost them so much money, in hopes of getting the c-word clerk fired.

I’m a cashier, but a good one, and I fully support Chefguy.

I got a free slice of pizza from somebody at a table full of slices of pizza, about 3 weeks ago. It was good pizza.

A bottle of shampoo marked at a discount store as 99 cents with a $1.00 instant coupon. I bought every one of them on the shelf. Since I purchased another item, they actually did take the entire dollar off every bottle for a net gain of one cent each. I kept three and gave the other 8 or 9 to friends and coworkers. More recently, a store had a sale for 10 pencils or 5 mechanical pencils for 9 cents each with no limit. My daughter is good for pencils for the next ten years. I also threw a dozen or so boxes into her school bag to donate to the school on the first day.
